What do you want to do? Will your education be more fulfilled at a community college or at a university? What about doing one year at a community college and transferring to the university (if you take core classes at a community college, they will be easier than at a university).

Think about these things and talk to your parents about it. Be c areful about following your friends to college.

The truth is, depending on what you are studying, college is a falsified education anyways. You are paying a lot of money to get a piece of paper stating that you went there, 80% of what you learn is b.s., the other 20% will be outdated by the time you need to use it. If you are considering something that has to do with computers, dont. The schools are teaching young kids how to use computers, I mean they are teaching them how to make programs, trouble shoot, repair, build, etc.

Granted you need that piece of paper to be able to get a high paying job, and possibly a great career, theres always that little chance that things will work out for you. On the other hand, when it doesnt, you are left with paying the government an *** load of money that honestly was useless the whole time.

The best advice I can give would be to re-think the field you are going into, and possibly consider a field that would involve a technical school. Go to the community college for your b.s. learning, this way you can add that to your technical training, and get a degree. This way it wouldnt have cost you that much to begin with, and with most technical schools, they have follow up classes so that as technology moves forward, you can learn about it as it comes in.

This way you have your degree, it didnt cost that much, and as the future goes on, you can do follow up classes that give you the edge on the future and security in your field.

Community is 2 years, if you go there first you will most likely decide what you want as a major and therefore waste less time than starting at a university. Hey, go with the one that saves the bucks, you will need the money later on. Your friend will still be your friend and has her/his own path to follow.
I'm not suggesting this because it's your parents choice, but because it's the choice that will keep your money in your pockets for the things you want besides the education.

Go to community college for 2 years and then to the university.

Simple, whatever you think is the best for your future. Problem is there is no way to anticipate what will happen. If you can hustle and get some scholarships and grants go to the university, if not and money is an issue stay with your parents and work to stay close to your friend. I was in a similar situation on choosing the college for me to go to so I know the feeling of being torn. At the end of the day whatever you choose make sure it is 100% your choice, that is critical.

Really surprise your parents - tell them you'll pay for the entire college bill, then go where you want to go.
Get a job to pay for the university, apply for financial aid, get a student loan (last resort!), and do what you want.
One thing though, once you get a job (or two), between working, studying, and going to class, you won't be seeing much of your best friend anyway... And you'll be working through summer, Christmas and spring breaks...
But you should go to the university, afterall, you're going there for an education, not to party......

Try to understand that your parents want the best for you, but they also want to keep you close and hold you tight. I am guessing that your choice would involve moving away and that is a fearful thing for them on many levels.

You might take them up on the Community College thing for year one. Show them how mature you are and then transfer to the University.

You are young. You see only the good things about growing up and getting out on your own. That is natural, but it is also natural for your parents to want to keep you close. Make sure you understand how much they want you to stay a kid and try to help them see that you are going to be a fine adult.

do what you want! remember you can always apply for loans and scholarships, this is the time to get out from your parents wing, do let them control your life!!

also to look for scholarships you can check collegboard.com, search google, and even check out the website of the university you got into!

so go into the college that you want. you're a grown person. the only thing you have to worry about is free time, college tuition, and what clothes to wear.
