Why doesn't dryer dry clothes?

My dryer doesn't dry the clothes thoroughly the first cycle. It's a Whirlpool 6 years old. (Lint screen is clean)

Locate the button around the inside where the door closes. Set the cycle for a regular dry cycle. Depress the button and and turn the dryer on. While holding down the button wait for approx 1 minute and watch for an orange glow inside the dryer. If it doesn't glow your elements aren't working. If the glow is very dim one set of elements is usually gone. If it glows but for less than a minute the high limit switch is probably defective. Keep the button depressed and see if the elements come back on. If so and its just for a few seconds replace the high limit switch. Other things to check are the vent. Yopu should use rigid metal duct to vent the air. Flex duct tends to bend and accumulate water in the bends which causes poor drying. Check the vent run going out of the house to ensure birds have not built a nest inside. If so use an electrical leaf blower rated at least 115mph and blow the vent out. Hope this helps.

If your clothes are hot after the dryer runs for a while the problem will most likely be the vent pipe from the back of the dryer going outside is blocked with lint built up over years of use. I clean my vent twice a year by removing the outside cover and running a flexible metal snake in it like a plumber uses to clean out drain lines. When I first done this I was amazed at the amount of lint that came out when I started the dryer. Only thing do not stare into the vent pipe when the dryer is started. (Dont ask how I know)

Check for a build up of lint in the exhaust duct, an excessive build up will block air flow. Also 220VAC electric dryers use different legs of the electrical supply. (two 110VAC legs tied via a common neutral make 220 VAC) One 110VAC leg runs the motor and controls while the other supplies power to the heater. It is possible that one side of the 220VAC has a blown fuse and is not supplying power to the heater element. Other possibilities: Blown out heater - requires replacement There is a safety switch attached to the shaft of the motor. THis switch relys on centrifical force to close and is intened to kill the power to the heater if the motor and its attached blower stop turning. If the motor is not turning fast enough of the switch is worn then it is possible that power to the heater circuit is not being completed. It doesn't take must of a speed reduction to cause a problem. Lint build up on the drum bearings can cause enough drag to slow the drum slightly. Combined with a worn/dirty switch and the switch fails to operate. Finally there is a blower attached to the motor shaft. The blower is made of plastic and somtimes the blower comes loose on the shaft. Usually you hear a rattling sound or sounds after the dryer drum stops as the loose spinning blower spins to a stop. ( A tight blower stops with the dryer drum) A loose blower doesn't move enough air and causes your dryer to run longer.

The regulator might be bad, the heating coil may have died as well. They just dont make appliances like they used to. Look in your phone book for appliance repair, give them a call, and see what else they can recommend for you, but make sure to get a quote first. In this day of throw away material and goods, a repair job can quickly cost as much, or even more than simply replacing the item.

go to the library and pull the manuels or the self help guides for appliance repairs there will be several with good pictures and step by step instructions the basic tools list includes a 10 dollar tester or multitester for resistance and for continuity thats the main thing also a guide in the books will rule out certain things as impossible or not the cause so get5 the book use care around the capasitors and unplug before tear down i fixed my washer and my refridgerators by reading the self repair manuels

Check the pipe from the back of the dryer to the vent outside... big problem, nobody ever cleans them out. Repair guys love it... $65 to clean a pipe.

If they are warm when you take them out, then I guess it's not the heating element. So-o-o-o-o, check the hose that takes the air outside. It may be full of lint.
