i bought them at a pet store by accident when i was buying neon tetras, but the idiot who was selling me the fish didn't know what a neon tetra was and gave me these instead. I'm pretty sure they're freshwater cuz i have them in a freshwater tank and they haven't died yet.

if you know what they eat please tell me because i dont know if i have the right food for them

Black Phantom Tetra (Megalamphodus megalopterus) They are quite peaceful and get about 1 1/2 - 2 inches long, not counting tail. Regular flake food with a treat of bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp or the like wll be a good diet for them.

The photo doesn't really show the colour of your fish. But from the look of it id say it was a saptre tetra (If its an orange or a red colour then I'm right). They will eat normal flake food. But just be careful because you need six or more of these else they start picking on the other fish.

Well, it's some sort of tetra, maybe a Serpae Tetra, although the tail is more red on most Serpae. I've seached two pretty good books and can't find one just like it. I'm going with Serpae. You might want to get a few more, they like to be in groups of 6 or more.---- read some of the other answers, the dorsal fin is the wrong shape to be a Black Phantom.

It's a Black Phantom Tetra...

regular freshwater tropical fish food would be fine.

They should be kept in groups of 3 or more though, they are schooling fish (all tetras are)

Neon tetra's are a vivid fish, yet they only develop right into a around 2". i like the flamboyant Tail Guppies their colorations are super and that they provide start to stay toddlers (you will pick a place for the toddlers to cover or the mothers and dads will consume them). yet another captivating Fish is a purple tail black shark, they strengthen to approximately 3-4" (they are not guy eating sharks) have exciting with installation the aquarium!
