Intel Core2Duo E6300. Absolutely no competition at that price, except for the E4300 at $169, but I still prefer the E6300. No AMD chip can touch it at such a low price.

Hi. That really depends on what you plan to use it for. I have an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ and it satisfies all my current needs. But dual core programs are coming and if you find a good CPU for this you will have some built in future proofing. Good luck.

To me, it is the
AMD Opteron 165 dual core
Socket 939
price is about 160 to 180
it is stock at 1.8ghz
but I have overclocked it to 2.8ghz
that is a 55% increase in speed for no price at all.
many others have overclocked to atleast 2.6ghz.
if you can't get 2.6ghz, you are either doing something wrong or so unlucky that it isn't even funny

The two base core2's. NOW if you want to cut that in half, the new AMD 3600 x2 65nm chips are about 107.00 and they kick butt. The core2 is the class leader, and if you own one, you'll know it right away. The lower priced ones are in the 169 range.
