Sometimes they take it too far. But they are not being mean when they are telling someone the truth that they did not sound good because that is there job. If they told everyone they were good singers then they would not be doing their job right.

I think that they are being a little mean at times, but not ALL the time. Besides, isnt that what we kinda of like on American Idol? Dont we like it when some of the people are HUGE babies about what the judges say, even though it doesnt matter about what THEY say, it matters about what the WATCHERS say????

The judges on american idol are pretty much paid to be mean. Though it is hurtful it attracts more attention.

You are mistakenly substituting the word "mean" for "honest".
Do you have something against being truthful and forthright?

Nine out of ten of those contestants cannot carry a decent tune and need to be told the truth in no uncertain terms...and that's exactly what Simon and the judges are supposed to do.
It's what their parents and friends, who lied to them about their talent (or lack thereof), should have told them in the first place and save them the trouble of setting themselves up for a big disappointing thumbs-down when judgement time came around.

Simon is...I think he's a sadist. Randy is usually right on the money...you can see by watching how intently he's listening that he is considering giving the contestants constructive rather than destructive (Simon) criticism. And except for tonite Paula is just too sugary-predictable. Tonight it seemed like she was "acting" to say more negative things. Boo Hiss. Go Randy.

Yes, especially Simon. I understand the show is looking for real talent, but the judges are far too critical.

I think that simon is way too mean a lot of the time on there. I do not like him they should take him off and replace him with someone else.

no, I think they are being totally honest. I mean, think about it. Would you rather have a show that everyone just always said, "wow, you are so good." even if they were terrible? Also, they are trying to find a star...like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson. If they are honest, they will find a star and more people will watch the show

Nah, they are just telling the truth...America is a very harsh country to please so they are just being preparing them. Sure, it may seem like they are twisting the knife a little deeper every now and then but hey they are the judges.
