This sounds more like you're asking us to do your homework for you. Go to your local library and ask the librarian to teach you how to do basic research.

In 1815 the Napoleonic wars were ending Spanish domination of the Americas. Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela were emerging as idependent nations.

They expected the United States to recognize them as sovereign nations, so did many in the U.S., as well as in Europe.

Not so in the Monroe, Adams administration. Vice President Adams believed that it was to early to recognize these countries because of the volotility of the area.

It could take decades for them to become actual independent governing bodies. His approach was "wait and see". He went one step further when Spain implied they had an interest in land on American soil. Adams and Monroe made it clear that if any country interfered with the growth, freedom, and economic security of this country we would retaliate against them.

On the other hand, if they left us alone, we would leave them alone. In other words, if Spain wanted to go after Chile, or Argentina, or England for that matter we wouldn't lift a finger. If they wanted Florida, well then that would be a problem.

This point of view, and policy was very popular until WWI, and then again in WWII. No longer could we be safe with the oceans to protect us.

During the 1800, and early 1900 it kept us free from fighting many European wars, that we would have other wise been pulled into. It didn't entirely keep us free from the Spanish, but they were pushed back.

We gained Florida (1861), Texas (1845), California (1846), and I believe the Louisiana Purchase (1803) from the French during that time. Remember they were broke from fighting Napolians wars. We also gained Alaska around that time (1867).
All in all I think it served us well. Adams went on to become President, and he cemented the policy during his time in office.
