I live in florida and my mother and I have a weekly lease agreement, I took a vacation for 4 days, to look for another home, and when I returned tonight she told me that she was changing my locks on the doors tomorrow, can she do that? I didnt have the money to pay her rent (friday) and now she wants to evict me? Our lease states 2 weeks for a default of payment... but can I really come home to new locks tomorrow?

I was supposed to give her money on friday but i didnt have it, the vacation which wasnt really a vacation was paid for by a friend of mine. I just dont want to come home tomorrow and not be able to get into the house. Is it legal for her to do that? Should I call a police officer to my "home" and have him review the lease so that she knows not to come here? She is going balistic because she can't go on vacation to MD while I dont have groceries. I lost my job and my roommate/ bf is in jail, she is aware of all of this and doesnt want to help me out.

You need to check state law but i lived in florida and my friend missed his payment by one day and he had a notice to pay an additional sum plus his rent or he would be evicted in 3 days =did your mom know that you were looking a new pad ? even though you signed a lease with your mom for 2 weeks - the Florida Law may state different.

Your mom is making a power play, yawn.
She's exerting her power in your life cause you peeved her.
Here's what to do. Do your best to get out as quickly as possible.
Who wants to live there anyway when this is the best your MOTHER can do? Unfortunately, she can't see the forest for the trees. In other words, if she put more value on your friendship, she would place less value on the money she thinks she lost in this 'transaction.'
Gosh, I hate it when mothers beat their chests and scream, "You child, me BOSS!!! Ahhh, ahhhh, ahhhh!!!!" (that's the Tarzan yell. Real feminine huh?

Anyway, do yourself a favor and get out now, do exactly what she asks, for YOUR peace of mind.

Perhaps by Mother's Day, she'll get her crap together and actually deserve a card and/or gift.

BTW, sometimes water is thicker than blood, unfortunately.
All the Best

Well ... if your mother wants to evict you ... something is terribly wrong. Either she is odd or very stern and unloving .... or you have done something that deserves eviction.

One ...... how can you take a vacation and look for another home when you don't have enough money to pay for this one ?

To exercise your rights ..... do you want to take your mother to court ?

Doesn't matter .... if she doesn't want you living there .... you shouldn't live there. Find something else if possible.

Your mom is going to do what she wants to do.

Yes, it is normally illegal for a landlord to evict a tenant after only missing one payment, but all bets are off when it is your mother and no judge or police officer is going to want to get into the middle of that fight.

Your mom is evicting you? Man thats harsh.
I have no idea what the living situations are here, but it kinda sounds like to me that maybe your mom is angry because you are looking for another place. Is this the case?
Regardless, just tough it out and find yourself a new place. No sense going to court over this.

Legally it is constructive eviction. She can't do that! But I would work things out with your mother.
