because its a new home he may still be alittle nervous and thats why he is going loopy on the wheel, but on the plus side you have a very active, healthy hamster. I think now is the time to take him out of his cage though and let him get to know you. Take him out every day to play, and if he loves running, buy an exercise ball for him to race around the house in. I got my hamster a year ago and the second me and my husband introduced him to his new home he ran on his wheel 8 hours solid. Fast forward a year, the lazy bugger has not used it since!!! but he adores being out of his cage and having free run of our home.

Nothing's up, he's just being a normal hamster! They will run up to five miles a night in the wild hunting for food. It's actually a good sign; if he were freaked out he'd be hiding in his nest and not running, and that would be a bad sign.

Hamsters are rodents...they are very active animals. Normally, when they are awake, they are constantly looking for food and protecting themselves. Since your hamster is domestic, he doesn't need to hunt, etc. He still has the need to be active though...hence the near constant running.

It means he needs to be handled more often. Its a sign of boredom. Take him out once a day or more. He wont run as much because he is getting exercise in other ways.

all hamsters are really active. well, when they wake up. you should let your hamster out a lot more. or extend/make his cage bigger. hamsters love being free and (since they're nocturnal) in the wild, they can run up to 5 miles each night.

he wants to exercise, maybe you should take him out more to satisfy the urge. There is a chance he is frustrated and trying to catch your attention, makes sure he has good food, water and clean bedding.
