Whatever happened to the two brothers of Little Edie(Edith) Beale?

Question

Little Edie Beale was the first cousin of Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Her Aunt, Big Edith Beale, and cousin, Little Edie, lived in a house on Long Island in the town of East Hampton. There were two boys in the family, Phalen and Bouvier Beale. When the house fell into disrepair, why didn't they help out with the renovation? Why didn't they help care for their mother?

I can't find anything on these men. I can only guess that the force of their mother's personality (have you seen "Grey Gardens" the documentary?) drove them away. Plus the fact that their father set the example by abandoning his family.
