I have been checking around the web for inground pools. In particular I was curious about the price. Expecting to see something around 30.000 usd i was shocked to find the prices on poolkits.com. Basically the 10' by 40' lap pool that i'm interested in sells for approximately 5000 usd. However, this is a do-it-yourself pool.

So I guess the real question is will I be able to install this myself or should I hire some people to do it.
Does it require a lot of landscaping around, concrete slabs or alike? I'm not sure I have never had a pool before.

In other words I would just like to know if anyone there has had any experience with these kind of pools and what are the catches and pros. Any answers are appreciated.

Nick, you can do it yourself, but... it's not going to cost 5000.00... you will save about 5 to 7000.00... and cost 20000 avg, you will act as your own contractor... I have done this on every pool I put in as I moved from home to home... you still need the professionals to do the work but you will save on the pool contractors cut... you will need to check out "Smart digging means calling 811 before each job. Whether you are a homeowner or a professional excavator, one call to 811 gets your underground utility lines marked for FREE. "if your pool is drawn up, equipment spot is located and permit pulled, the first guy to get is the excavator, then the plumber, then electrician... rebar, gunite, tile, plaster and concrete decking... and once you find an excavator, he will know people... it's not that difficult...

Hate to toss a possible wrench in your works, but double check with your county and town regulations, and get a survey done of your lot. Some housing complexes frown or even outright ban pools and sometimes other things. Worse yet, perhaps you want to drop a pool, right where the local gas line goes... please verify it is actually permissible and feasable to place a pool in your yard.
As far as doing this yourself, it will be a large task, larger than most people realize. Renting backhoes, doing all the layout and labor, actually getting rid of all the fill that you just dug up, and many other factors (like the pool plan you are going to try) can really affect how well this project will go. Keep doing your research and see if you can get a set of the kit directions so you can look them over and see just what all may be facing you.
Good luck.

A pool is not something you want to take a chance on doing yourself. I am serious, it can be very difficult if you have no experience. I think if you shop around you can probably get that pool professionally installed for about 6-7 grand which is a lot cheaper than the expenses of putting it in wrong.

That price just includes the liner and pump, probably. You still need to install circulating plumbing, electrical, dig a hole, etc. By the time you're finished, you will have spent a whole lot more than $5,000, even doing it yourself. You might as well hire it done and get a warranty for the work.

You can build your own pool two ways cement or liner.
I prefer liner it is much easier to install.
