Depends on what you want to do.
At 3.5 ringgit to a (US) dollar, Malaysia has more bang for your buck than its neighbours. English is also widely spoken there (Malaysian education system makes it mandatory to teach English to six-year olds). The transport infrastructure is well-developed so getting around is a cinch. If you will be flying around in the region, AirAsia is a great budget airline.
If your into shopping, Kuala Lumpur has great places for all budgets. Low yat plaza has some of the cheapest electronics goods for offer due to the intense competition between stores. Bukit Bintang has most if not all recognizable luxury brands. For bargains (and loads of cheap imitations), Petaling Street is a haggler's paradise. These and everything in between can be found.
Food is an obsession in Malaysia and it will show. Kuala Lumpur is very cosmopolitan and most world cuisine can be found here but the uniqueness of Malaysian cuisine is its eclectic mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western influence. I would like to recommend several dishes, but the list will be too long here, to go out and be adventurous, you will be glad you did. Good food is plentiful and cheap. You can usually find nice things to eat by yourself but it is recommended that you hook up with a local (since they will know the best places) to make take the most out of the experience. Little side note: Be prepare to gain weight, but it will be worth every pound/kilo.
If you're a culture vulture, Melaka and Penang harkens back into Malaysia colonial past with an amalgamation of Asian cultures. If you're into more exotic experiences, the East coast and Sabah and Sarawak are great places to immerse yourself in the native Malay and aboriginal culture.
Fancy clean white deserted beaches and clear turquoise water? The beaches of the East coast and the various islands like Langkawi, Redang, Perhentian, Tioman and Pangkor will fit the bill. The relative obscurity of Malaysia has made these places relatively tourist-free unlike our over-commercialized Thai counterparts.
For more serious diving pursuits, Sipadan Island in Sabah has untouched and unexplored coral reefs brimming with marine life.
Nature lovers can delight in trekking through the rain forests of the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak.

It depends on kind of places that you are interested to visit.
If you choose to be on beaches I would recommend you Langkawi. From Kuala Lumpur you can take an hour flight, choose Air Asia for budget airline.
If you wish to visit skyscrappers and modern building, I suggest you stay in Kuala Lumpur where you can visit KL tower, Petronas twin towers, Putrajaya ( New Government Administrative Centre ) and Cyberjaya. If you wish to visit Putrajaya take high speed train from KL.
If you wish to enjoy your holiday in hilly area, I wouldsuggest Genting Highland, Cameron Highland or Maxwell Hill. If you are interested in hilly area but more adventerous I would suggest Mount Kinabalu or Mount Tahan.
Apart from that if you are interested to see local cultures, you may visit a few states in Malaysia such as Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Kelantan and Kedah. People in each state have different culture and some different dialect.
In general there are so many activities can be plan for you holiday in Malaysia. Malaysian are friendly and they live in peace and harmony. Three main races are Malay, Chinese and Indian...they live happily like brothers and sisters though they have different cultures, traditions and religions.
You may enjoy many kind of foods which are good quality and at affordable price. Try them out....Yong Thou foo, Mee Kung Fu, Nasi lemak, Nasi kandar, Roti canai etc...
Forget about your cholesterol level and your weight for a while...
Enjoy yourself..

I would suggest you to go to Sabah. I was there for three times. Believe me U'll never get bored. Rent a car, drive down from Kota Kinabalu then stop at National Park, Feel the breeze from Mount Kinabalu. Next stop, at Kundasang so much better than Cameron Highlands. Don't forget to grab some roasted chicken wings (opposite the vegetables stalls). If you have plenty of time just go to Sandakan to enjoy cheap seafoods, Lahad Datu, if you like dried seafood and Tawau for their pearls (very cheap)
P/s: Just remember to visit the beaches and have sotong bakar at the same time

I would recommend the Borneo part of Malaysia. It's where they made the film 'Anaconda 2' but it was only a movie (action movie?) because there are in fact no anacondas in Sarawak/Borneo.
Maybe 'Holyman3' can help you with that.
