First of all, it is important to have a Pap test done. It is not necessarily painful, but it can be uncomfortable... mainly because of the situation. There is an instrument that is inserted into your vagina that opens up (can feel awkward) to let the doctor look inside. The doctor does insert a figer or two to "feel" around inside for abnormalities. This is not sexual nor is it meant to "feel good" - it is strickly professional, and if you ask for a nurse to be in the room with you, they will - unless you are comfortable or have a female doctor.
Usually the doctor talks to you throughout the entire process that takes about 5 minutes (give or take a minute). He/She may also do a breast exam to check for abnormalities also.
If your parents want you to be on birth control, perhaps they have reason? It is important that if you do go on birth control that you aren't smoking, and that you do take the pill every day at the same time. Talk to your doctor about this - be open because this is the one person you shouldn't feel ashamed to talk about sex with - this is THEIR job and what they are being paid the BIG bucks for. Don't be shy, or don't feel like you have "stupid" questions... you have honest questions and you need honest answers... so ask them.
I wish you luck. And the sooner you get it over with, the more relaxed you'll feel... then you'll have another year to wait for your next PAP!
GOOD LUCK!

MY mother wanted for me to on the pill BUt i am not commited to take the pill everyday @ da same tyme so I choose the shot. It really iz your decision. The thing I like is you can talk to the doctor about anything becuz your mother cant be in the room with you. DOnt be afraid or anything. I was though ,and I was nervouse but It was alright.

first they insert the spectulem (sp?) which gently opens the vaginal opening so they can see what they are doing. Then the dr will use a Q tip looking thing to scrape the outside of the uterus, which by the way only tingles a little bit it doesn't hurt. Then they remove the spectulem and gently inserts the fingers and pushes on the outside of the lower abdomen to feel for any abnomalities in and around the uterus that could not be seen.
As far as if you parents want you on birth control, if you don't want to take it, legally you don't have to. Talk to the dr about it.

My mom scared the crap out of me when she described a pap. It made me never want to get a check up. But when I finally got one, it really wasn't so bad. Uncomfortable the first few times but you get over it pretty fast after having it done a few times.
All they do is check your cervix by looking at it and rubbing a swab on it. (look like a big qtip) this will let the doctor know if you have any health problems like cervical cancer or something.
I dont know if your parents can force you to be on birth control, but if you are sexually active I highly recommend it, as well as a condom.
Just try to relax during the procedure as best as possible, and breath. I know its easier to say than do but if the doctor does a good job, you really shouldnt feel much pain at all if any. Like I said, its mostly just really akward and uncomfortable

They look inside of you to check and make sure everything is alright up there. Women can have a lot of problems stemming from that area, so they will swipe it with a q-tip or two and send them out to be tested. It's a bit uncomfortable but necessary. As for the birth control, better safe than sorry - you never know, just remember that it doesn't prevent diseases, and just because you're on it doesn't mean you have to have sex - you make sure to hold out for someone real special.

Pap tests look to see if you have abnormal cells on your cervix, which can be a sign of current or future cancer. If your parents want you to be on birth control, that is between you and them. But, birth control pills will not prevent you from getting diseases like the papaloma virus which causes cervical cancer. Ask your doctor or, if you are in school, your school nurse. Having unprotected sex, even if you are on birth control pills, will expose you to various diseases.

They sterialize a metal instrument and incert it to open the vagina. Mildly uncomfortable, better if your not tense. Then they take a large cue tip and swab the inside for cells. Those cells will be tested for STD's and cancer. You get it done once a year.
As for the birth control...it's up to you not your parents. However if you are sexually active. I suggest you take birth control (shot or pill) and also use condoms. Protect yourself from STD's and pregnancy. They have an STD that gives women cancer....however you see no signs that a guy has it. That should scare you. It does me.

If your asking what they do for a pap smear you can't be very old .I think you need too ask your mom about that .Must be a reason your parents want you on birth control.

it is just a culture test to see if there is anything wrong down there i think they test for cell abnormality's(cancer) sti's and regular infections...... and about the birth control the question should be do YOU want to be on birth control (questions to think about is there a reason to be on it, do i have bad periods or irregular cycles (BC can help with that) ) because it isn't really up to your parents its your decision and i would suggest sitting down with them and talking about why they are suggesting it.
hope this helps.
