Just curious to know if it is bad for your computer or if you can lose information or stuff like that.

It depends on what your setting is. Assuming you're using windows, right-click on the home screen and click properties. click Screensaver, and in the lower right-hand corner, there should be a button labeled "power." click on that, and a new window with a bunch of tabs comes up. One of those tabs has options as to "what you want you're computer to do" when you shut the lid.

Assuming it's set to shut down, that is not good for your computer. Neither is restart. hibernate is okay, but I recommend either "do nothing" or standby. That way you can quickly open it and get back to work.

The only possible damage, well not really damage, but not a good thing for your computer, is that when you close the lid, the screen shuts off all of a sudden if you know what I mean.

Avoid it if you can. Set the option to standby.

Hope this helps!

It will go into stand by mode. On some computers when you open it back up you'll have to re type your password. It's kind of like what happens when you have your screen saver. You shouldn't lose any information and laptops are made to be able to do that. Everything that you had on the screen will appear exactly how it was.

If it-s a recent model, nothing bad will happen. The hard disk goes to sleep on you. When you lift the cover, it will wake up again, and the work you were doing will come alive again, and continue as before. Probably if you were in the middle of saving something, it would be wise to make sure it is completely saved, though.

By closing it, do you mean turning it off?

If that's the case.. yes, that is bad for your computer and can cause things such as, hard drive failure and/or loss of data.

It will go into a hybernate mode. To turn it back on hit the powerbutton after you open the lid (if it doens't turn on automatically).
