Hello

Currently in Tokyo at the mo and am amazed by the variety and variation of the phones and fancy getting one as a souvenier. Only problem though is how to get one unlocked??

Does anyone know of a model or network that is easy to unlock once back in the UK\?

Thanks for your help!

Just buy a new phone in the UK ... or ask the Japanese operator to send you the unblocking code, in Europe, by law, phone operators are obliged to do so, don't know about Japan ...

Yea, I was thinking about buying a Japanese mobile as there is such a huge range, but I was worried that I may not be able to use it the UK.
I'm sure the phone will work once brought to the UK, some phones automaticly work if you take them to other country's. Just make sure you have it on a British network, If it is locked to a Japanese network then most phones are easily unlocked at a cheap price. Also, make sure it is not on contract! lol then you WILL be in trouble.
The launguage on the phone should be easily changed too.
Good luck getting your japanese phone.

Hi, you have various choices. Either buy a sim free phone ie; not locked to any network common phrase in Philippines (I know it's not Japan) is "openline", but I would assume that any phone can be unlocked providing the software is available to do it. As long as the frequency used is compatible with uk networks it shouldn't be a problem I bought an N93 in philippines and it works fine here.

Get an overseas or international account from Docomo or any of the major J phone companies. I take students to England from Japan and we do that
