A bit before everyone else's time, but what about Lauda's 6m58s at the Nuerburgring in 1975? The only competitive lap of the old circuit ever in under 7 mins! Imagine it; over 14 miles, mostly around corners with just two longish straight bits, averaging well over 120mph - and this at a time when 175mph was flat-out for an F1 car. As Jackie Stewart has often said, anyone with the right car can go quickly at Monza or Silverstone. You have to be something very special to do it on the old 'Ring.
Btw, anyone who thinks Schumi was better than Senna needs to take his head out of his a** more often.

Sorry about the Senna, but Senna in Phoenix 1990, on-board camera. It is a lap I have always remembered over all others.

here you have two greats laps Keke Rosberg in SIlverstone 1985 (one of the highest average speed laps ever seen) and Ayrton Senna Mexico 1986 (100% on the limit in a very poor conditions track, you should try to get the video)

Although you said no Senna... I've seen an in-car of his around Monaco, and it was breathtaking. Watched it, rewound the tape, watched it again, and again. Unsure what year, but I've never seen a lap like it.

Senna aside... a strange one, but...

Schumacher, Shanghai 2006. He wasn't on the pace due to his Bridgestones not matching the Michelins, but the time he got out of those tyres, under that sort of pressure, was incredible. I've never been a fan of his, but that lap impressed me a lot.

Of course, I can think of other great laps by Trulli, Hakkinen, Berger, Schumacher, of the late 90s/2000s runners, but for the life of me can't think what year they were in.

Well besides Senna at Monaco in 1988, it would have to be Keke Rosberg in a Williams FW10 at Silverstone in 1985. He flogged it senseless. At the last corner I remember he hit the ripple strip on the exit rather hard which was out of character for the original flying finn. Turns out one of his tyres was deflating. This was even more amazing considering the lap was the fastest average speed for a lap in Formula one history (160mph), and would only be bettered by Juan Montoya at Monza in 2002 behind the wheel of a BMW Williams (162mph). Not bad for a chain smoker hey?

For me definitely the qualifying lap Michael Schumacher did at Malaysia 2001. Sliding the car through the chicane like a rally car and never lifted. He was fighting for the pole with Ralf in the BMW Williams, they had the camera on him watching from his car monitor and he even shook his head in disbelief.
The race the next day was, I think, Michael's ultimate drive. Michael, followed by Ruebens, slide off in Panis's oil after his motor blew. Then the monsoon rain came. Ruebens got ahead of Michael as they got back on the track and then both pitted. They sat there for almost a minute waiting for the Ferrari pit crew to find thee right tires. Michael exits the pits in 11th place and in 9 laps marched through the field to retake the lead and win.
Proud to say I have it on DVD.
