No - just another internet rumor. Austin Winkler (the lead singer from Hinder) is still out there doing his thing. It is possible that this rumor got started after a high profile murder case in South Carolina in March of 2006 where a minister "Matthew Winkler" was shot to death in his bed by his wife Mary.
