I'm half-way into my Drama mayor and I'm so confused but more anxious and scared of what to expect.
I'm from Puerto Rico and it's scarry to imagine yourself leaving your safety net. I want to act, I cannot see myself working in an office my entire life.
For those who don't know, in Puerto Rico the film industry is almost non-existent.
I don't expect to be a celebrity (I really don't like it) but at least to get the chance to work on films, good dramas.
It's hard to see what the film industry has become today, that in order to act, you have to be first physically perfect so that you can be even considered.
I'm just fishing for some anecdotes about other aspiring actors and their experiences at first. I know that for drama mayors there's no secure jobs to feed you while you get work.
Thank you so much for your input.

The film industry in Puerto Rico is small because the population is small. If you want to act in film in the U.S. you'll need to go to California. If you want to act in Spanish you'll need to go to Mexico City or Madrid.

As a third alternative you can focus your options on theatre. You'll never get rich that way, but most cities with moderate populations have a theatre community, and your communication with the audience is far more immediate. Why not consider acting for stage rather than film?

I have my B.A. in Theatre/English and I can tell you: anxiety and fear are going to be your life. The rewards make the fear worth it, but if the fear is too overwhelming for you, then I recommend changing your program.
