Actual Volume remains low even if I have it set to maximum everywhere. I can't understand why my other HP laptop can have the sound surrounding the whole home but for the Acer laptop, I have to sit very close to it to hear something understandable. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

If it is undeer warrenty still i would take it back because I have an Aspire 5601 and it has great sound, although i still use 2.1 speakers because they sound so much better than the inbuilt ones. When i travel i use the in built speakers and they have plenty of volume. If you are using a program such as media player or itunes make shure that the volume in the program is set to maximum, and that the wave volume level under the volume control is set to max. If that does not work try some external speakers.

If your sure you tried all the settings, physical volume button, volume control on windows, then try plugging in different speakers into your system, if it still has the same problem, then it's windows volume control which is set too low, or the physical speaker volume control on the computer.

Easiest to check first is volume control on windows and make sure volume is up on the volume and wave, turn them all up and make sure "mute all" is unchecked.

Start, run, cmd, type in: sndvol32.exe

Be sure that the application you're using doesn't have it's own volume control. If it does, turn it up.

Also, be sure that your master volume controls are turned up.

If this doesn't work, you can download plugins for Windows Media Player that improve the sound.. However, I think they are made for people with sound systems.
