Putting the emotional part aside (which is important too),
I want to be able to see my partner if he has an accident.
I want to be able to officialy share all my property with him and be able to get benefits from the government.
Personaly I dont care about having a civil union instead of marriage, but if some people find it important then why should'nt they be married? I really cant understand what this fuss is all about, especially in the "land of the free" (free my as.s, but anyway).
Even if it really sounds bad as an idea or immoral, people dont have to attend the ceremony. And for those considering it sinful, well let the high and mighty judge. It really doesnt affect anyone, and it is like saying: I am offended when gays can buy a dodge car because it is disrespectful to the straights who own a dodge.
Actually it shouldnt even be an issue, but since the christian Americans have the same level of spiritual mentality with the Africans (and this is a fact proven by a research) it is not surprising at all.

I don't really see the big deal. First off what are people afraid of? It isn't like they are trying to marry YOU! Second the divorce rate is very high in this country and that is for STRAIGHT couples so obviously people of all sexual preferance make mistakes. Third love is love! connection is connection, so why waste your time and energy fighting it? As far as the religious side of things go, why protest it? You can be married without God being involved, you are married by law not God and therefore if these people are "sinning" as the bible says then that is their choice to make and not for anyone else to judge except God. By protesting it and being flat out mean about it you are going against what the bible says about loving thy neighboor... it doesn't say "only love those you agree with". I am not trying to offend anyone but come ON! Why care so much about someone else's life, especially if they don't want your nose in it or if you don't even KNOW them!?

I don't see what the big deal is anyway. I think any two people should get married. Call it marriage, civil unions, whatever you want. As long as gays have the same rights as everyone else in this country, I do not see the problem. I really don't understand why the religious right is so angry about this issue. The institution of marriage has been in shambles for -how- long in this country?! I have no problems with gays marrying, adopting, etc etc. As long as they are two consenting adults, I really don't see the problem at all.

I am for gay marraige. Marriage is a right in this country and it should be availalbe for any person who wants it. To discriminate against a whole segment of our population based on sex is illegal and wrong. So discriminating against gays and forbidding them the basic right of marriage is wrong. The Civil Unions proposed are not acceptable. Seperate but equal does not work in America. That was already proven when blacks had seperate but equal amenities from whites. We all know how well that worked. I say marriage for all or marriage for none.

Just fyi, I'm straight, married, female with 3 kids.

What do you feel about going back one, two, or even three pages and seeing the rest of the questions identical to this one?

At least you didn't say it was for a project.

For the thirtieth time, I'm for gay marriage. I'm also for mandatory spelling tests before a person is allowed access to the internet.

I think that all people, no matter their sexual orientation or anything else, should have the right to choose who they want to marry. Gay marriage should absolutely be legal... there is no difference between couples except the fact that they are of same sex. What harm would there be in letting them be happy?

If people have a problem with Gay marriage because they believe that marriage is a religious institution, then the federal government has no business regulating it. ("seperation between church and state") therefore, we should all be free to marry.

i know there will be those of you out there who say "well if we allow gays to marry, where do we draw the line? what if someone wants to marry a goat" and other intelligent arguements of the like.

the answer is simple, two conscenting adults who are ready to pledge their commitment to one another.

I think with a hetero-divorce rate well over 50% speaks loudly about what hetero's have done with the institution of marriage, and how sacred it really IS NOT to them.

GLBT would be getting married because they wanted to .. not because we knocked up each other and felt morally-half-assed obligated to raise unwanted children. We consciously choose to be in relationships and to create families. Its not a haphazard decision made in the throws of passion.

Two people who (legitimately) love, care and share with one another in a committed way are what build a relationship and make up a marriage. Sexuality/gender should have nothing to do with it.

I'm for it but if it happens I would like to see a study done to see if their marriages last longer than those of straight couples.
