There are silent wheels that can be bought at pet stores. Depending on store, get the mid size for a Syrian, is $9-$13. We have 20 cages between my son's and daughters rooms and we use the silent wheels and their great. Last night my son (has 16 of the cages) had 6 wheels going at one time and well we need to replace one that broke. We put a non-silent wheel in there and it kept us all up.

YES! on average, a hamster in the wild will run from 2 to 5 miles every night! you should probably keep them in a different room, thats what i do, and they don't bother me as much. but yes they do need a wheel! You can get an almost silent wheel but it will still make a little bit of noise and you will probably have to oil it eventually. I had a wheel that was supposed to be silent but it broke and my hamster fell two feet to the ground so if you have a wheel that fits onto the outside of the cage get a good one! Whatever you do DO NOT take the wheel out! i tried that and they just chewed on the metal bars and they messed up their teeth so now i have to go to the vets to get their teeth trimmed every two weeks. :( so just try to put them in a different room.

Um... sure. Why couldn't you? It's just another room. Just don't spray perfume or hairspray or anything right near them, that sort of thing. If there's a bothersome smell, the cage needs to be cleaned more often and more thoroughly. That's not a bedroom issue. The only potential problem is, the sound of the wheel may keep you awake. You may as well give it a try, though. Living in your bedroom will be fine for the hamsters.

Yes! A hamster needs a wheel. The little guy would run over 5 miles in the wild, he(she) needs exercise! I had the same problem but I just got a different wheel that doesn't make noise at WAL-MART. Also do not just take the wheel out at night. Hamsters are nocturnal and they like to run at night.

They do have wheels that reduce the amount of noise, but no, the running wheel is not needed. If you get him a ball to run in and make sure to give him running time EVERY day than that is good. If you want - you can put the cage in during the day and take it out at night. I would still suggest getting a ball though. It gives them more adventure and more exercise.

They dont need one 24-7 but they do need exercise,,unfortunately they are nocturnal and that means little sleep for you.
Even if you took the wheel out the chewing digging etc they do would still keep you up.
There are "quiet" wheels on the market, sometimes a little crisco cooking oil on the hubs of the wheel will quiet it down a bit too.
Sometimes the best bet is a different room at night for your fuzzy friend.

They dont NEED a wheel. But they do need a form of excersise. Get him a little ball to roll around in for a few hours each day (Not all at once of coarse)

Either that or move the cage out of your room at night.

have you seen how fat your hampster is getting, they are the obese animal and need exercise or they will die. they have very slow metabolism and will not stop eating but will eat their bedding if you dont keep a ready supply of something to eat for them. thats why wheels were invented for the hamster cage, in the wild they non stop run and move all day long and sometimes most of the night. do some research and this is what you'll find.

Yes hamsters need excercise or else they will get fat. Lol. Sounds like u have a squeaky wire wheel. Get a plastic one. Harder to clean but they are less squeaky. I have a hamster and i can hardly hear him at night. Get a plastic ball so he can run around the room. WITH SUPERVISION ONLY!.........NEVER leave ur pet unattended.

I would buy a second cage without the wheel, then he'd have a quiet room to sleep in and one to play in all day.
