Here are my tips on tryouts. The coaches love a guy who hustles every where. When the coaches call you over or to another drill, don't walk always run. They like short term memory not long term. What I mean is if you boot a ball hustle after it, don't start pouting, get ready for the next ball, keep battling. Don't ever show quit. Whatever you do try and not be the first one to field, hit or run. Observe what the other guys are doing and listen to when the coaches praise a player when he does something they like.
For hitting, if they are using a machine, don't be the first one again. Try and stand behind home plate or back behind the machine so you can see where most of the balls are crossing the plate, high, low, inside or outside, now you know what to expect and where to stand to hit the ball on the sweet spot of the bat. The best place to hit the ball is right back at the coach if he is feeding the machine, this will get his attention and he will remember who you are. If tryouts are later that evening I would sneak off to the closest batting cages and get in enough swings to warm me up.
There is no pressure if you just do your best. Pressure is when you have to make every play and hit all line drives and you must make this team. Empty head, full bat, loaded with hits. Full head empty bat, no hits. Remember, if a coach says practice or tryouts start at 7:00 pm. That means be warmed up ready to go, not warming up at 7:00 pm. Coaches love guys who are the first ones there and the last ones to leave. Good luck buddy I hope this helps.

You are practically in, trying out as a freshman and your brother has already played on the team - it's your to lose.

Here is the corny crap they look for....
Attitude is everything. Move fast no matter what you are asked to do, even if you are getting a drink of water during someone else's time in the spotlight, sprint to the fountain and sprint back - always be ready for your turn to play. Encouraging other people is a great way to show value as a team member. Always keep your head up - NEVER slouch or look down at the ground if you make a mistake just instantly get ready for the next ball and show the ability to re-focus and concentrate after a mistake - act like it never happened.

Coaches know they can teach the willing, but no coach wants to deal with potential talent that may be too lazy or "too cool" to try harder. If you've never failed, you've never tried. So above all - get dirty! If you come home clean, you didn't make the team.

During a tryout, you have to show A LOT of effort...even you make a mistake or suck. Also, at shortstop, you better be able to field every ground ball hit to you and turn a good double play. And finally, to make it at any position(except pitcher/catcher), you better be able to hit.

If you mess up once, put it behind you and make up for it on the next play.

The single biggest thing you can do...given that you have some ability...is hustle..coaches .(Iwas a coach and I did) put desire and hustle ahead of size, strength,, etc. often. I will work with a guy who hustles and help him improve. Give every minute your best, you can rest after practice

When you go out on that field LISTEN very carefully to what the coaches are telling you to do.Get it your best shot and let the chips fall where they may

well i lost out to Brian Downing's kid.because the coaches thought that he'd be good enough to go....so as long as you don't have to compete against any former MLB athletes' kids...you should be fine..

just play your game..don't get all nervous about it..relax and let your game make your statement for you...you have got it...or you don't....
