In 1947, Jackie Robinson was playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The co-owner (don't know name) was looking for a man perfect to break the color barrier of big league baseball. He found Jackie a few years earlier playing in the *****-league. He asked Jackie to play so he played on the Dodger's minor league team, then he went to the Dodgers. He had to undergo extensive questioning by the co-owner and was just right because he refused to fight back to taunts and critisism. He just played ball. He played, then retired (don't know dates). He then died of diabetes. In 1997, his number (42) was officially retired. He broke the color barriers and became a hero for his confidence and his teammates and many citizens of the US respected him.

Jackie Robinson was the first black player in major league baseball. The owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Branch Rickey, decided to look to the ***** Leagues to sign talent, so he signed Robinson at age 29. His first year with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he won rookie of the year.

After JAckie Robinson, more teams started to sign black players, and there was some diversity. In 1997, MLB retired Jackie Robinson's number 42, so no one else could ever wear that number.

Sorry folks: Moses Fleetwood Walker was the first black man to play MLB. Jackie Robinson did break the color barrier that had been in place for some time. But, in the early years of MLB quite a few blacks did play. >

Larry Doby should not be forgotten.
