He had surrendered his will to Sidious-and Anakin/Vader was never as strong as him, especially after his "Accident". He just didnt care-He destroyed so much of his life that any personal wants or needs were clouded-and that made him the perfect servant. Well, almost prefect...

He was biding his time and learning all he can to one day replace him. Yet at the same time the Emperor was something of a father figure to him. When he realizes his son, Luke, is alive he was getting ready to plan on taking the Emperor out once his son joined him. Remember what he told Luke in Empire Strikes Back after taking his hand off? He told him that he wanted to rule the galaxy with him as father and son. So like I said he was waiting and biding his time.

if you combine dustpan and dr 7, you get the right answer. Vader had more power then sidiuos(I know it is spelled wrong) but he see that he doesnt know enough and makes a vow to siduios, then when he loses his arm and legs(the suit) he loses his wife, he accepts his fate, then when he meets luke, and see that it is son, he wants to make him his pupil, which there is only 2 siths at one time, which means to kill sidous, but when luke doesn't join him, he waits for the right time. But it is like he got the will back because of Luke, who he thought died with his wife.

I think don't think he really thought that he was more powerful. I think that was just his outerward display. He was very insecure....
