You can't really say the Mavs are gonna win it this year. Don't say it's over 'till it's over. While they do have the best record in the NBA right now, they still have to go through the Playoffs where they face tougher opponents compared to the regular season where they face bad teams with even bad records.
Why am I saying this? Look at the Miami Heat. No one ever gave them a chance last year. Can't beat the Pistons, Shaq's old, D-Wade's a ballhog, and all that s#%t. But lookl, they won - AGAINST the Mavs. You can't really count anyone out.
In the West, the Mavs face opposition from the high octane Suns and the streaking defensive-minded Spurs (who won 9 straight games while holding opponents below 83 points, the best in the NBA). Not to mention the Jazz and Lakers, who have beaten the Mavs this season.
And about the fact that the Mavs seem unbeatable this season, learn from the Detroit Pistons last year. They seemed poised to win it all having the best record and completely dominated the league (just like the Mavs today). What happened in the Playoffs? They crumbled and lost. That could very well happen to the Mavericks. If you're saying that "the Mavs lost it last year so they are more determined", look again to the Pistons. They lost to the Spurs the year before and were more determined only to lose in the Playoffs.
Although the Mavs are this year's favorites to win it all, I expect them to reach no less than the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs for the Conference title.

The Mavs have all what it takes for a team to win it all. They can run (with the Suns or Nuggets) and can play defense (against the Spurs). They´ve got some incredible defenders in Harris, Howard, Buckner or George. Plus there ist Dirk Nowitzki. He´s playing his usual MVP game night in night out. Finally they have scorers as a second or third option (Terry, Howard). I could add a few more things here, but these are the most important reasons.
Why they could lose this year? They have by far the most pressure after such a fantastic regular season. Nothing counts more than a ring. However, I still think it is their tendency to take too much jump shots instead of driving to the hoop. That´s their weakness.
In the end, I think, they will win the Finals It will be a close playoff race this year, so watch out.

well the championship will go through Dallas. The only way someone will rob it, is if the referees sell the game (again) or if Dirk or J-Ho gets hurt! The bench is so deep that they will be able to over come other injuries as well. The addition of Devean and Buckner was great as they are good defensive presence on big guards and forwards. The most important thing that is burning these Mavs is the fact that they are pissed off! they are pissed of that no one ever gives them the credit! they are pissed off that people still doubts their abilities! They are pissed off that they lost their rings to the referees the last time around!
Yes, the Spurs have stepped it up and they are playing really good ball... But I think the Mavs have got over the hold that Spurs had on them. After the Dirk's dagger in game 7 that killed off spurs and let the whole San Antone reeling, the momentum has swung in Mavs favour. Physiological edge is everything in the game of sports and the Dallas Mavericks has one up on every team in this category!

hmm.. ca depend. I see them sometimes holding the trophy in hand, and other times i dont. The question is not wheter they will win the finals if they get there( face it, even detroit is not that good, the east suck!), but whether or not they even get there. I can name five teams right now that can knock them off: Suns( exploding offense, steve nash), Spurs(tim duncan), Utah(GREAT teamwork), Lakers(Kobe), and the rockets(starpower: T-,mac, Yao). I think that the spurs can defenitely knock them off for two primary reasons. First of all, the team overall steps up its gameplay a million leaugues above during the postseason. Tim duncan's stats are waaaaaaay up during the postseason. The second reason is the fact they DO NOT live and die on tim duncans peformance.( by that, i mean that they dont need him to do great to win, although they still need him). If all the other teams (i mention above) superstars collapse(cept, for utah), then they are basically dead. The fact the spurs can win without a great night from tim duncan is a huge difference between the affore mentioned. An example of this is only last nigt. The spurs pulled off a seven point win against the trail blazers and tim duncan only had 9 POINTS. Those arent even double figures! This is why i dont see the Mavericks getting out of the west, although i do have faith in them.

For the people that have said "they dont want it as bad this year" thats just stupid.
look at them! #1 in the NBA!!! Looks like they want it pretty bad! No team is anywhere near them! So yea i'd say they still want it. If not more now. They tasted the championship last year. But let it slip away.
True there's the playoffs to get through. And those arent games to take for granted. For those who think the Mavs will are stupid. Thats when you want it more!!!
So. Looking at the West you could argue contenders are Suns, Spurs, Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets. Lets see. Suns have yet to beat the Mavs, in Phoenix AND in Dallas, Lakers have beat the Mavs, but they struggle. Spurs, they've been sloppy this year. Rockets, they still recouping, Nuggets. Melo and A.I. just can't beat the mavs when they play together
Then if Mavs make it to the Finals again, who in the east could win? Pistons? Nahh. No way. Raptors....if they made it that far i'd be very suprised and proud cuz i do like Dallas Native Chris Bosh :) but they're too inexpirienced, they should be glad they made it that far.
Mavs SHOULD HOPEFULLY win it this year.

yes, Dallas mavericks have a chance in winning the NBA Championship in 2007. They have the best record with the rest of the teams. They are a strong team. but, they can only get that trophy with more team work!!!

I do see them winning the championship, they had the finals experience last year and they came really close.
This year, it's like no one can beat them, they've had so many double digit winning streaks. they've already cliched playoffs!
I just don't see some other team beating them 4 times in 7 games.
