What was the importance of the persian gulf war and/or the main significance?

I'm guessing you mean the first war, or as we call it 'Desert Storm'. The main significance was to liberate Kuwait, but we unwittingly set the stage for Al Quaida and Sept. 11th when we put military bases in Saudi Arabia... It doesn't seem to matter that Saudi Arabia asked us to put them there, and helped us build them. We really upset the fringe element of Islam without even realizing it.

Iraq invaded Kuwait to obtain new oil fields. The UN ordered them to get out, they didn't. My uncle went there with the Marines.
