The point of making your bed is the same as combing your hair and brushing your teeth..would you see no point to combing your hair if it were gonna` get messed up again when you went to bed? Would you not brush your teeth cuz` they are gonna` get dirty anyway? It`s called maintenance and good housekeeping.

Honestly I dont see much point in it unless there is company comeing over. Im 31 and my mother was a neat freak she always makes hers. I dont make mine unless i have a good reason to or unless ive been deepcleaning my room or if i just washed all the bed clothes. I can see how doing what your folks ask you to do will earn your respect and show that you respect them. Plus you could earn some responsibility points. So I guess what you need to decide is do you want to keep fighting with your folks about makeing the bed or have them clam up about it and earn some respect. I hope you can get it worked out.. good luck

She is actually instilling in you a terrific habit in life. Yes, believe it or not, having a tidy bed (made up completely) is a great habit. Why do you think in the military they require beds made every morning??? Ever heard the saying "Messy desk, messy mind."? Same applies to a bed. The room just doesn't seem "straight" if if the bed isn't made... the room seems "messy". It is "unfinished" and anything unfinished is a form of clutter, and its effects are far-reaching.
Anything unfinished in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms clutters your psyche. It is something "not dealt with." Believe it or not, "unfinished" things impinge on your ability to get on with other things. I know this seems deep, but it's more of a training she is instilling in you to "finish" things.
Your subconscious mind will suppress (or justifying not making your bed) these things nicely for you if you ask it to but it takes a lot of your energy to do so. You will be amazed at how your vitality levels soar if you just complete all your unfinished business.
When we were growing up, we were taught that when you get out of the bed, don't let your hands leave the sheets until the bed is made up. To this day, I make my bed every morning. And my room always seems tidy! :)
I hope this helps, and I know this is long, but I laughed a little when I read this because I use to get so ticked with my Mother over this too....
(God, I have become my Mother!) :)
I copied a link below for you to look at, but I took some of it and pasted in this (to make it easier)...

Just try making your bed everyday for a week. While you are still in the bed just pull the covers up to your head, then slide out. It doesn't have to be perfect.( I like to just straighten mine and leave the top portion turned back, ready for me to crawl in at night.) At the end of the week if you don't notice that it makes you feel any different when you come home or get ready to crawl in at night, then try talking to your parents about it. Your room is YOUR space and it should make you feel good. I have three kids, I try to get them to make theirs on their own. I didn't make mine growing up, my mom always made hers but didn't make a big deal about me doing mine. As a grown-up I started to. I see now that it is an important habit to have. I think it would show responsibility on your part and earn you more respect.

If you can't make your bed and provide order to your room, you can't convince your parents you have enough order in your life to be given responsibilities beyond a very low level. We all do things to prove we have it all together. Making your bed for no apparent reason is just one of many that you will run into in the rest of your life. Go make your bed, don't ask why, show your parents you care about what THEY feel and what THEY say. As much as you think it is, life is not all about you.

okay, i don't know why anyone would tell you that not making your bed shows that you're not a responsible person. don't pay them any attention...it's bull. i don't make my bed, but i keep the rest of the house clean. your room is private...no one should go in it but you, so why make the bed if you dont' want to?
however, using the excuse of 'i'm just gonna mess it up again' isn't going to convince your parents..trust me it tried. all i got from my mom was 'well, why eat if you're gonna get hungry again?'...you know, irrational things like that.
the only advice i have for you is do what they say till you move out...now that i dont' have mommy dearest on my back, my bed is only made on days i change the sheets.

The point that your parents are trying to tell you and hopefully you will figure it out is that they want you to take responsibility for the things that you do and follow through on a request. Plus it makes your room look neater and cleaner. There's nothing like crawling into a nice neat bed!!!

There are two reasons to make a bed: first, it looks neat and tidy; second, it keeps the cat hair from being on the sheets when the cat sleeps on the bed. If you don't care about either of these things (I don't), there is no reason to make the bed.

Actually it is best to keep the covers off of your bed so that your mattress can air out. All sorts of nasty things like bed bugs and dust mites love nice toasty blankets put over them!
Have them read the BBC article below - "Untidy beds may keep us healthy". The picture that goes along with it will convince them!

Unfortunatley some people will judge you for not making your bed. I'm 31 yrs old and don't believe in making the bed. It's a pain in the butt for nothing.
