1) Do check out Golden Dragon at People's Park Centre #02-51. They sells a wide range of craft materials and they also offer classes for crochet and knitting.

2) Spotlight at Plaza Singapura used to offer classes too. However, not sure whether they still do it.

3) People Association Community Centres also offer crochet/knitting classes. Check out schedules at their website: http://160.96.187.35/NASApp/cconline/main.do

4) Alternatively, you could buy a basic crochet/knitting pattern book. Most books will have drawings to guide you through the basic stitches. This is a good way to start off as a beginner, I also started this way.

If you can't find anyone to show you, the best website I know of for knitting is http://knittinghelp.com

This site has clear videos on how to do everything from beginning to end. May I also suggest starting with size 5-6 mm needles (that's US size 8-10ish) and a light colored, cheap, man-made (acrylic), tightly wound yarn. The light color allows you to see easier where loops are, and having an acrylic tightly wound yarn makes it easier to take things apart if you mess up or just want to practice. Also, I have heard a size G crochet hook is best to start out on.
