I don't think people understand!!! When they want to increase the life of many people, they turn to government!!!! The worst mistake one can make! You have to force humans into competitive markets. Politics are too easily corrupted and if you notice, the people who plead for more social government intervention are the same people who have never picked up a book on economics!!! The quality of government help is autorocious and at the same time the competitive free market has been known to build the best efficiencies ever created! The private sector builds and the government pulls down! I am not saying that people like Hillary are evil, I am just saying they are brainwashed into thinking that the government will be the end all solution to the worlds problems!!! This is not and never will be viable! Instead of people preaching government intervention they should be educating the children to be self responsible, helping them understand economic freedom, and also leading by example! If people stopped and researched the goods and bads of over subsidization, we would have no economic liberals! You cannot overpay for goods and services and expect more technological and medicinal advances! Socialism doesn't work and every nation that goes through this process has paid more dearly than those who have not! America is not on free market healthcare anymore! This is one of the reasons why 35% of people can't afford insurance! It's not that there is too little government, but that there is too much government already! This double headed snake has to be tackled at the root! The addition of branches just makes it strong reducing the hope and strength the people have! I truly believe and would die to make the world a better place. The funny thing is, we shouldn't have to die for it! Human nature builds the best worlds, fighting this nature is actually fighting human nature! As long as conservatives and liberals thirst for control of others, we will never be able to have the best lives! It is sad but true! Competitve markets, not high taxes and big government build the greatest nations, highest average life expectancy, lowest amounts of child labor, lowest unemployment, more goods and services, better efficiency, lower adult literacy rates, lower infant death rates, as well as the greatest growth of income per capita! The problem is nobody ever researches these things! They always look at a politician and do whatever they say should be done! There is a reason that America doesn't have France's debt and 10.2% unemployment rate. There are reasons why France and Sweden's healthcare are starting to decrease in services rendered! There are reasons why Cuba, Venezuela, Africa, and many other socialist type countries are beginning to decrease in almost every category addressed above! Without knowledge these people are left to opinions, bad opinions. When I reject a government intervention they look at me as a devil even though I know I am doing the best thing for the future of society! It is sad to know that people are so bad that we can't even count on government! Many European countries were very rich before becoming socialist and now they are being drained more and more everyday! The downfall of society is not because of greedy people in the private sector, it is because of uneducated voters that pick a side without research! This cycle of life will never stop and there is nothing the few educated people can do to stop it! World socialism is beginning and it will cause more deaths than communism's 100 million murders! The broken window fallacy is applied in almost every case in this example but many will disregard it! It is sad that so many people care, but that very few of those people understand the best way to help! Teach self reliability to your children, help them understand philanthropy! Help them understand why human nature needs to be placed into competitive markets and why governments destroy growth and prosperity, especially for the poor! Help them understand the truth and lies from the politicians words! It is sad but in todays world, many people do not understand how things just have to be! Heaven on earth is not attainable! Never will be! Economic freedom such as Hong Kong will be exactly what is needed to spread religion peacefully as well as giving the best lives possible to the most people! Give freedom to all ~ Libertarian

That's a very convenient position to take when the president is a Republican. Now I ask you, what was your opinion of the mission in Kosovo? Were you as in favor of standing behind the president then?
Politicians are constantly looking for wedge issues so they can make political points off of each other. That's the nature of the beast.
But is it really wrong to hold the current administration accountable for the problems at Walter Reed? No. There have been reports circulating for over 2 years about the conditions there being unacceptible and nobody seemed to want to take responsibility for fixing them. Whether or not the problems stemmed from previous administrations or anything like that aren't as important as why nothing was done once the first sets of articles publicizing the problems were published. For a lot of critics of the administration, not just liberals, this lack of responsibility is an endemic problem for the Bush administration. They seemed happy enough to make the decision to go to war but they don't seem to be able to do a good job in dealing with everything that entails including properly equipping the forces, running the occupation, and caring for the veterans when they come back home.
Now that there is a different party running the show in congress, one that isn't quite so pleased as punch to have political allies in the White House, we're finally seeing some uproar. The important thing is to see things get fixed however you need to fix them, not keep a united front. For that alone, it's probably beneficial to have at least one house of the legislature always be controlled by the party not controlling the White House whether the POTUS is a Republican or Democrat. If only they could do it in a more cordial manner...

Neither party is responsible for "politicizing" the situation at Walter Reed, the media sensationalized it because it is unbelievable that it was so rotted and no one knew - let alone is it a VA hospital. And once alerted we are all (by all I mean every US citizen regardless of political affiliation) appalled (and if not should be).
Bush is in the hot seat not because of declared partisan but because he holds the title of "Commander and Chief" and with this great house and title comes A **** Load of ACCOUNTABILITY. I would probably be considered pretty right wing by most people( - I voted Bush twice and would again). However, he knew what the job entailed - a whole lot of lives being effected by his minor daily decisions. And he is ultimately accountable for the State of The Union (for lack of a better phrase).
And no offense intended, but it is not those calling for the current administration's accountability that contribute to the piss poor incivility and inefficient bi-partisan system, but the poor ignorant souls living thousands of miles from DC , reading Po-dunk Times and thinking they have enough of a clue to comment on non-issues exaggerating the role politics had to play and thus trivializing the issues at Walter Reed (the premier VA hospital that those soldiers you mentioned above HAVE to come home to).
Even if the general was oblivious to conditions that still makes him criminally negligent. Because he should have known - HE WAS PUT IN CHARGE and someone needs to be held accountable. Lead by example. No wonder kids today have no sense of true responsibility. (sigh).
Oh, always check out multiple news publications before forming yours - hear both parties spin and you'll usually find yourself somewhere amongst the middle.
Didn't mean to get on a soapbox... we all have our opinions...Hope mine gave some new perspective. Cheers and

Uh, for the same reasons conservatives do.
What country have you been living in, that you think this is a liberal thing?
United front?
You mean we have to pretend that every (horrible and unjustifiable) thing this administration does is OK with us?
Can't agree there.
We have a responsibility to hold leaders accountable for wrongs they commit.
United front?
We aren't doing ourselves any good by agreeing, for example, that torture and mass murder are justified.
That just convinces everyone that we are heartless, greedy brutes who don't deserve to live.
In general, Bush Co has shown an appalling lack of compassion and lack of concern for the troops.
They sent them to die for bogus reasons, refused to outfit them, have refused to take care of the wounded, cut their pay, extended their terms, violated the terms by which they signed up (by sending Guards overseas) -- a few examples that spring to mind.
I haven't been following this particular scandal, so don't know whether the administration has had any role in it, but if they had then we should put their feet to the fire.

I have to agree. The deplorable state of the Walter Reed Medical Centre was not a result of Bush's orders or mandates. He is not directly responsible for the neglect of the wounded, the unsanitary conditions or the general lack of oversight which has allowed matters to get as bad as they have.
However.
He, and the largely Liberally influenced Congress, are responsible for the governmental gridlock which has resulted in answering of supplimental aide requests with inactivity, ignoring the repeated requests for additional staffing, and denying requests for maintenance.
Trust me, the WRMC didn't end up in the state it did because the people there lacked the integrity to care, it wasn't because of negligent misappropriation or malevolent mismanagement. The situation there DOES warrant investigation and redressal, but certainly not in the way in which it has been handled.

I agree. They insist that he should have known what was going on, but they over-simplify the job to suit their purposes. You can't tell me it wasn't going on during the last administration and Clinton didn't know about it, either. Both appointed people who they expected would do the job they were appointed for. They didn't do it and they were fired. You can't do more than that: once you find out who didn't do the job, you fire him or her. Then again most libs think that Bush should have stayed near the phone in the White House on 9/11, anticipating the attack. Meanwhile, Bill did no wrong.

When you have no real power to stop abuse of the weak by those in power, you object as loudly and as vocally as you can, in the hope someone with power will stop the injustice or the perps will feel self-conscience and stop of their own accord.
They are not attacking Bush, they are defending Vets who deserve better treatment than they were receiving.
