For gaming : Anything XPS is nice. XPS 700 is the most advanced, but I'd say XPS 410 if you're going for gaming but not on a big budget. A upgraded E520 also works here.
For Media: Dimension E520 is pretty nice for media and games that aren't top of the line. You can run games like Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 but you're not going to get the full graphics you want.
For Basic Computing: Any Dimension under 800 dollars works for this category. You're still going to be able to play games and listen to music and watch videos and stuff like this, but these computers are not made for top notch gaming and tons of multitasking. Listening to music and typing and being on the internet will all work at the same time with out slowing down too much.
