The Tell-tale Heart is about a madman who murders someone and then can't hide his guilt.
It's very short and well-worth a read. The language is a bit flowery, it was after all written in the 19thC but they are quite exciting.
Try the Cask of Amontillado and the Masque of the Red Death.
He was one of the first ever horror (and first ever detective story) writers. Give him a go, get a book of his stories from the library - he didnt' write any full length books, and just dive in.

just to name a few.

It's about a man who murders another man and is then done in by his own guilt, to put it in a nutshell. Poe has written a myriad of short stories and poems. His most well-known poem is The Raven. Some of his well-known short stories are "The Cask of Amontilado"and "The Pit and the Pendulum".

Why don't you just read some of his stories to find out if they're for you? I mean, that would be the easiest thing. There's no way to accurately describe it, because the way I feel about his work is, no matter what, going to be different than how you feel about his work.
Go read some of his stories and poems. And don't stop after just one. Read a bunch of them to decide if they're "right" for you.
And another thing: they're not books, they're stories. You'll be hardpressed to find a book of JUST The Telltale Heart or JUST The Fall of the House of Usher. The most common thing is a compilation book of a lot of his stories and poems.
