What is a notebook?

I saw a question by *heather* saying she was trying to draw backgrounds for her notebook. Is she talking about just like school notebooks or is it like a portfolio?

no I think it's a technical device like a blackberry or computer or something, not completely sure, but I also know that when I was looking to buy a laptop they referred to them or something similar as "notebooks"
