This is a situation where there may be no perfect solution. In addition to this, scarred skin does not tan well, and you may do further long term skin damage by exposing your leg to the sun. But talk with your doctor about this. Over the internet we can only speak in generalities.
The Shriners support several hospitals throughout the country. At least one, in Cincinnati, is a pediatric burn hospital. I believe they have an out-patient clinic that deals with burn victims and the associated scarring. Many other large cities have burn units where you could get advice on cosmetic improvement.
Courage, courage, courage. Keep fighting for yourself. Don't let the unfortunate events 5 years ago get you down.

I hate to tell you this but you can't get rid of major scars. They may fade a little, but that is about it. Lotion can help a bit. If you are really that serious about them being gone, there are some products out there that claim to help fade scars. Your best bet, if you are willing to spend the time and money, is to see a cosmetic surgeon. There are procedures, like laser treatment, that will remove scars. If all else fails and you can't do anything about it don't worry. Believe me, not very many people are going to be that concerned with your legs. And hey, your personality is really the only thing that matters. Show people that you are proud of yourself. If you show your strength in being able to deal with something like that, then people will adore you even more. Just have confidence in yourself. If you pretend like they aren't even there then people wont even notice. The only time people really care is if you show them that you are self-conscious, thats when they take advantage of people. Good luck and keep a smile on no matter how you feel!

i am sorry, but i doubt that the scars will ever completely go away. vitamin e is good for helping scars fade a little but, so maybe give that a try.
i know that this must be very distressing for you, but i dont think that you should worry too much about your scars. my sister was a swimwear model until she also got sever burns on one of her legs. she was unable to keep doing the swimwear modelling, but she has no qualms about going to the beach or wearing skirts or shorts. generally in this type of case, you are more concerned with the scars than anyone else is.
you have nothing to be ashamed about, and if anyone has a go at you about the scars, dont worry about it. it says more about them and the type of person they are than it does about you.

You can try rubbing cocoa butter on them. I had some very minor burns on my leg that turned into dark scars. THe cocoa butter helped to fade them, though it did take awhile.
