THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!!!
Like a lot of news stories, the "second draft" of the facts is not as sensational as we were originally we were led to believe. But our soldiers deserve the very best and I am distressed any time that they don't get it.
But you are right. They have government health care, the type we're all apparently supposed to have.
No thanks!
The medical workers are dedicated, but the administrative paperwork, etc. is the problem. I think more government involvement would increase the bureaucracy.
PS I have personal experience dealing with "outpatient clinics." As opposed to acute care (hospitals), they can be dreary places. People have long stays, and understaffing is common. Ever try to fire a government employee, though? I'm not sure what kind of employee pool they have to choose from either. Then again, let's not trash the many, many dedicated people working hard and trying to make do with limited resources.
Bottom line: get the troops the best care possible, and argue about who's at fault later.

That is not true. there are some very fine VA Hospitals in the system. Yes they are few and far between. The problem with the VA is that it is ran by the government and the people employed there are government workers. Not to say all government workers are bad, its just the VA seem to collect some of the lowest to the low in their ranks. But I absolutely agree with you in that government run health care is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Great question!
The condition of VA hospitals and treatment has been a recurring issue for several decades. Every politician promises to fix it and none really do. Treating Veterans poorly is common. After the last Gulf war, the same issues were noted.
Don't worry, some Washington politicians want to impose the same standards of bureaucratic care on all citizens.

WALTER REED is NOT a VA Hospital. It belongs to the ARMY. It is operated by the ARMY. The patients there are ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY.
I prefer VA health care to Civilian Medical Care because I can get a medical opinion that isn't driven by money.

Bingo, give the little lady a giant stuffed panda. Finally, some sense is being made. Thank you. One comment says there are a few good VA centers. Sorry, since my disability in 1968, I have not seen one, and I have been to many.

Anybody who's ever used the military health care system knows that universal health care does not work.
Both that and the VA have been screwed up for many years.

Anything that the government takes from the private sector to manage becomes a disaster. Have you looked at the public school system lately?

I was tempted to defend the VA, but I realized that the issues they deal with would be the same--on a much larger scale.
Answer is: Government can't do it. Hopefully, they'll never try.

Managing hospitals and providing insurance coverage are vastly different things. Government health care is primarily about providing the insurance coverage for people going to private hospitals.

BINGO. You are correct, because socialized medicine does not work. My state owe doctors and dentists over 2 BILLION $$$$ in unpaid medical. No way will the system work. Liberals want it because it is one more step to Socialistic Government.
