NEVER, EVER, pay for any "Free" virus scan, download Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and AVG Antivirus, google them.

You have tried to download a site that is not spy bot free. Try going through Google and type in spy bot search and destroy 1.4. It should come up with a light blue background and offer you free download. If you get a red background it's the wrong site. I got on there by mistake and I think it tells you about all the viruses to make you buy that product. True spy bot is free.

Do not believe this. Free anti-spyware and anti-virus are always viruses themselves. I used one today, it did the same thing, except found 706 "problems." LOL!!! I know it is false because I have Norton Anti-Virus from Symantec. That one costs money and it can be trusted. A better scanner and anti-virus is McAfee. It works really good, I know because my brother uses it, and so do the schools. Anyway, some of the stuff the freeware anti-virus thing did, i clicked repair, and I wish I hadn't. It repaired, no, it DELETED parts of my WindowsXP operating system. Now many things can't install on my computer, and to fix it I have to re-install windows, which will delete EVERYTHING on my whole system. I hope you know that you encountered a scam. DO NOT TRUST FREE-WARE ANTI-VIRUS.

SiteAdvisor is probably the best free thing, and you can ONLY trust this, because it's by McAfee, and it's an add-on, not a scanner. It tells you what's safe, not safe, and when you should be aware. VERY GOOD DOWNLOAD!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Your welcome.

Spybot Search and Destroy is anti spyware software not anti virus, you say spybot this a form form of malware Delete it and go to download.com or safer-networking.com and download the legitimate one. You should also try the free house call by trend micro. Good Luck!

It sounds like you may have downloaded some phoney software, as the 100% genuine SPYBOT: SEARCH & DESTROY from http://www.safer-networking.org / http://www.security.kolla.de/ is completely free to use and doesn't require any form of payment......... neither does the equally free Anti Virus software available from http://www.free-av.com or http://free.grisoft.com

There's a list of phoney anti-spyware software to watch out for listed on this site:

Most likely it isn't true it says that to make u want to buy the software. if your computer is running slow i would try to buy Norton Anti-virus. It is the most reliable and best.

P.S don't try those free Internet scans any more.

ok if you have over 200 then it most likley means that you have spyware or adware NOT viruses and if you download a program that tells you, you have all this crap (viruses) on your computer and then when you go to remove it and they want your money, how can you trust their software?

Spybot lies... It is just wanting you to buy from them... If you have Norton, then that's all you need.

As a computer technician, be aware of spybot, it digs deep into your OS and detects files that are not supposed to be deleted. Once you delete them, then here comes your headache...

Norton or McAfee are highly recommended.

my advice is, and I'm assuming you are using windows, go to
http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm
download the 90 day free trial, that should do the trick for now, that is if your copy of windows is legal.

Or you can try AVG anti virus, and AVG anti spyware:
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Good luck !
