Because they think that'll draw people into their questions more. Personally, if it isn't in the title of the question, then I don't even bother. I only try to answer ones that I know something about, or have the exact answer to. Another thing that annoys me is when people answer questions with an "I don't know" or something similar. Then don't answer! Point gaming at it's finest.

Besides that, how do they really know how many points the best answer will get? You could get up to 60 points for a best answer depending on how many thumbs up you get, and if you count the two points you get automatically, then you have a possible 62 points for one answer. They must think that they are psychic...

They are just trying to get as many people as possible to answer their question in hopes of getting an answer that doesn't completely suck. They think that adding that to the question is an incentive for others to read their lame *** question.
