No they are not evil. Yes it involves magic and witchcraft but the overall story of good triumphing over evil and people doing good for the sake of doing without ulterior motives are the main themes.
No there are no satanic words in them. The words used for the spells are Latin not satanic. Also, there are no references to pentagrams, Satan worship or the Necronomicon.

All of life has satanic words somewhere . . .
Hiding in the closet might be the only way to not hear or see them . . . how long can you live in a closet ?
Harry Potter is a wonderful child who faces many challenges as an orphan with mean relatives.
His fictional powers of being a wizard make for a fun story of how he grows up to be a good person, even with an evil being (Voldamort) chasing after him.
Harry Potter is one of the top quality stories that goes on through many years of his teenage life.
Do NOT miss it !

No and No - they're a wonderful series of books and well worth reading. My son (now 8) is re-reading them for the third time. I'm re-reading them for the fourth time. We get as much enjoyment from the films as we do from the books. Yes, the storylines do get darker as the series progresses, but children shouldn't be molly-coddled. Bad things happen in real life, and if reading about bad things happening in fiction prepares children for the real world then hurrah for J K Rowling!

I have read all 6 books several times so far and so has my son. If they were a bad influence or had anything satanic in them I would not read them much less let my son. They are wonderful books for all ages. You should read them. I bet you would be a pothead too!

Who put such thoughts in your head. Potter books show kids that they can solve problems themselves, think for themselves and take resposibility for their actions. All good life lessons. I don't remember one satanic ritual in any of the books.

Not in the least. They're very good books that are, if anything, referencing the Bible.
Read them! They're good!

No, it's just fiction.
So no matter what it can't be offensive, only if you believe in it.
