Okay, here's the lowdown-

A while back, a friend of mine asked to borrow my MP3 player so he could copy some songs to his computer. When I asked him to return it, he said he forgot it at home. I thought, no biggie, he'll just return it tomorrow. This went on for a while. Somewhere along the path, he said that the principal confiscated it from him. I asked the principal, and he said that the MP3 player must have been returned, because he didn't have it. The friend says he doesn't recall getting it back, he is unsure of whether or not he got it back, and that the MP3 player is either at his house, or the principal has it, and neither one can be confirmed.

What should I tell him? I don't wanna be a jerk about it (because he's a good friend of mine), but I want my MP3 player back! I'm in a bind here, and I just don't know what to do. Please help!

A friend that lies to steal something from you is not a good friend. He either has it or he broke it and is scared to tell you. Confront him one more time and ask for the truth. If he is as good of a friend as you think, he should give you a satisfactory answer. If he leaves you hanging again, you might as well buy a new MP3 player and decide whether he is worth being in your life. Whatever you do, don't ever loan him anything else again!!!!!

Be honest and direct. the longer you prolong telling this guy you want back what you loaned, the more you will suffer. Do this the next time you see him.."I gave you something of value to me, you took resposibility for it, you failed to return it, you need to now replace it or return it...give him 24 hours." (if he took possison of this MP3 player in front of other people, and they know that he took it from you, try to ave the same people around . say no more than this .... If he fails to do this, well, replace your friend and your MP3 player yourself. Somtimes you win, somtimes you loose a MP3 player. In the end you dont need to be around somone who will not give you respect.

He's the one being the jerk about it- you need to confront him, because he's treating you with absolutely no respect.

I don't get the drift that you are comfortable with confrontation- so I would suggest that you just ask him why he's playing you like that, and ask him what have you done to deserve that as you would like to have your property back.

You gotta work up the courage and treat it like an exercise for learning how to negotiate tricky situations.

Sometimes when people borrow stuff, they treat it even worse and with less care then they do their own stuff- the longer you let this go, not only will it gnaw away at you, and the more likely it is to get broken.

I honestly think that you should get your friend to read this question. Show him exactly how you feel. Just cuz he's your friend doesn't mean that he can take undue advantage of you. In the real world ppl become friends for this sole purpose. Although not everyone does it intentionally, it can eventually become a habit. You not confronting your friend may actually allow him to develop this habit. If he really is your friend - confront him - if not for your mp3, then for the well-development of your friend's character.

You might have to start getting agressive with him. Be firm in your words. Don't say "hey, by any chance do you have my mp3 player?" or "Can i have my mp3 player please?". Show him you are serious and demanding, like " Give me my mp3 player now."

Friends don't steal from friends and you shouldn't loan anything of yours to a friend, anyway.

The guy has played you for a sap and stolen your player. Get over it and never loan crap out again.

You so called friend probably broke it. I'd make it very clear that you want it immediately. If it is a no show, quit the friendship before he takes something else of yours, like your girlfriend.

You tell him to get it back. I think he just wants to spend more time with it. Seems like it, dude. Sometimes, you gotta be aggresive about situations like this. Or else, they are going to think that you're cool because you're not asking for it a lot. Be a a**hole about it. Good Luck!

Pop him in the face or go to his house and demand the MP3

Be firm either way
