I'm only 12, but I really want to be a fashion designer. I know I've got quite a few years ahead of me, but if I do end up being a designer, I want to be really successful, and I thibk it'll help to start now. Do you have any ideas for me to just get started? I've drawn a few designs in a sketchbook, but I want to learn how to sew, too, and be better at sketching. PLEASE HELP! I'M DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS!

It is best if you can join a sewing class, the one that teaches you how to make clothes, not the quilting class.

There is a book called "Patternmaking for Fashion Design" It explains you how to make sweing patters from sketches, also how to make basic patterns for a human body, also how to make customized patterns. I bought it on Amazon and it is great. You can get it used, it is cheaper this way: http://www.amazon.com/Patternmaking-Fashion-Design-Joseph-Armstrong/dp/0321034236/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1_rsrsrs0/102-0231754-2762563
Unfortunatelly, you can't find anything on-line for free that will teach you. I tried and tried, before I bought this book, to find somethign on-line that can help me to draw a pattern, but I couldn't find anything that acually works and that I can recommend to people.

Also, you will need a sewing machine. But that's later. First, learn to sew by hand. Once you advance to more complicated and large clothing items you will need a sewing machine. You don't need a very expenive one if you are just starting out. You just need something that will make basic stitch and zigzag.

Since you also asked where to get a solo dress - I think you can make one yourself, if you don't need it urgently. Or at least you can make a design and find someone who will help you sew it. I make my own ballgowns for ballroom dancing, it is not that hard and it is a lot of fun. Solo dresses are custom made as far as I understand.

You are not too young to start.
