my 2003 6i 2.3 has a cracked intake cam and the tech at the local dealer said it is due to oil starvation so they wont warranty it but i have proof of oil change 2500 miles ago. I can not provide proof of service prior to that because i am not the originaI owner. I have the car at another shop and there is absolutely no signs of abuse or lack of oil, upper engine is clean and there is no bluing or heat spots. Oil jackets are clean and clear. I called 800# and they are stone walling me. They say that this can only be caused by lack of maintenance. Somebody please give me some advise. Thanks P.S still have 6 months left on warranty and 8k left also.

Get a hold of the Mazda Zone rep for your area. Ask the local dealer for their direct phone number. They are the ones who call the shots for the area dealerships regarding these issues. Basically let them know you are not giving up. The car is under warranty. You have absolutely nothing to lose. You are being stonewalled by the 800 number because that is what they are trained to do! Then before too long, you are out of warranty. Write the zone manager a certified letter also stating your problems and keep a copy for yourself. This puts date proof on your case. Good Luck!!

Don't know where you are located, I'm in Northern Ireland and am having similar difficulties with Mazda, see my question from a few days ago "Anyone experiencing bearing problems on a Mazda 6".
I suspect that oil starvation may be the cause in my case and I am not impressed with the oil pickup strainer installation in that the oil sump pan has a flat bottom and has no baffles. This means that if the oil is on the low side when going round a right hand corner the oil pick up strainer is sucking air.
This brings me to another point. Oil level can only be determined accurately when the engine has been stopped for a considerable period of time.
As I said in my previous post I know of at least four engines that have experienced similar problems to mine.
In my case I'm just outside the three year warranty period but I am positive I was hearing the bearing knock during the warranty period but at the time it was put down to "injector knock" or diesel knock as we call it. With diesels it is difficult to distinguish one from the other.

So had you checked the oil since the last oil change? Go get a second opinion, you can go to other dealers and they will look at it..

Was there extended warranty on the car, Mazda's factory warranty is 3 years (not sure what the miles are, I'm in Canada and we use km). Three years, depending when the car was sold, is 2005 or 2006.
If there was no extended warranty, its your bill.

Try another dealer. Bring your bill from the oil change with you. Be calm. Ask them to look at the car and tell you what they think.

Good luck.

They have to prove that neglect is the cause. They should have an oil analysis done on the oil that is in it also. You can get it tested elsewhere and submit the documents to them and try to get them to pay if it wasn't caused by neglect.
But if you haven't owned it long, maybe that is the cause, you had the oil changed 2500 miles ago, but how did the other person treat it? Some parts of the warranty are only good for the original owner as well. I would do some research on that.

Visit another dealership if there is one in your area. If it's under warranty then I have always been told it has to be worked on unless there are obvious signs of neglect or abuse. But one dealership may not be as willing to work on it as another and you may have better luck. Also hint that if treated right you will be willing to do business with them the next time you are in the market for a vehicle. Service after the sale goes a long way to establish repeat customers.

First thing to do is, unless your warrentee has been voided, visit another dealership. Act like nothing happened at the other place. new dealer may repair it.

Also contact the previous owner and try to get some paperwork. Or find out where he had the car serviced. they may have records on file.

You have to call mazda and raise a lot of hell. Tell them you wont buy another mazda and you will tell every one you can to stay away from them. Also check with person or dealer where you bought it and see if they hsve any records.
