I ordered a hoodie online, and they sent me a size too big because they were out of the smaller size. I was thinking that I might be able to shrink it, but I was wondering how much it would shrink if you washed it. Anyone know about how much?

It depends on the manufacturer. Some cotton comes pre-shrunk. Being a natural fiber, it may not have an exact "shrink ratio" anyhow. Besides that it can also depend on how hot the water is as well as how often it is washed. My personal experience is that it's not so much the hot wash water as the hot dryer and even then it's a matter of how hot for how long. Suggestion: If you can't return it, wash and dry it and see. If it doesn't fit then, or you don't like it find someone who does want it (or donate it to Goodwill or such).

i know i have shirts that if i wash and dry my 100% cotton shirts they shrink to where they dont fit anymore, so it would probably shrink down a size.

Usually it will shirink down one size. I'd recommend drying it on hot also to make sure it shrinks.
