Why wait? Just start writing simple lyric poetry. Any decent musician can put appropriate chords in.

I've written my own lyrics- my friend and I write them for our band. We just take whatever we see or think, whatever we want to express, and then put it together however we see fit. Sometimes we make the actual instrumental first, but if I have a good plan or starting point, I just let whatever I think flow into paper, and then see how it goes from there. Write about what you know, what you think, what you want to express, anything.
Good luck!

I have written six complete songs with lyrics and melody.
It is a really exciting thing to hear them played by someone too!
Very fulfilling experience and one that will be a lifetime accomplishment.
I encourage you to follow your dream to do this.

YES! I have writen two good songs. to make it easier, i would start out with the lyrics and then add beats and instruments. Just remember that not all songs HAVE to rhyme although I find it easier to do so. It's all your creativness so use it =]

Yeah, I've written a couple dozen. Some are good, some are horrible... Sometimes it's frustrating, but it's always fun. You should try to one day.
