Football players hit harder even though hockey players have a lot of momentum behind their hits . The players in football, on average, are much bigger and the sport demands hits on every play. They train to hit, its the objective.

I love hockey more than football. I know that I will get a lot of neg flags for saying that football hits harder but football players hit harder... doesn't mean football is tougher than hockey. For those of you saying momentum carries harder hits you are right BUT the ice always works both ways.... the hit is absorbed somewhat by the physics of the ice too. A bad hit in hockey is probably worst than football but those hits are not usual.

Football players hit more, but not harder. Football is a contact sport and so is hockey but hockey players hit soooooo much harder because they have a lot of momentum going into the hit. Where as football players just ram into each other like a bunch of flowers on a windy day. Definitely hockey players

In general I would say hockey players hit harder because they are moving so much faster and can line hits up from farther away. However, I would say that some of this hits football players take on special teams, kicking and punting team, would definetly rival most any hits in hockey.

Absolutely hockey players hit harder simply because hockey is a faster sport than football. In according to Newton's First law Force = mass X acceleration. If two players with the same weight both hit the same target, the player with more acceleration will hit harder. I respect both football and hockey players, but there is no way that a football player on foot can catch a hockey player on skates.

Its hockey. Hockey is way more demanding then football, and is more difficult to deliver big hits. So, even when you don't have momentum in hockey, you can still send your opponent into the boards.
In football, almost every BIG hit is when a player does not know its coming, so its easier to give a big hit. In hockey, unless you are keeping your head down, you usally know when you are going to get hit, and when you do get hit, you can really feel it.
Even so, you still see more big hits in hockey than in football.
Sorry if this does not make sense. I am tired and I did not look over this.

depends on the hitting and situation With the New Hockey rules i would say they aren't able to hit as hard as they can so my vote is to Footballs players because they are crashing into each other with out hurting there team

But as a hockey player i will add Hockey could be stronger but that's because of balance but to get hit hard without being Penalized would be football

I'd say hockey players because they skate really fast and when they are intending to hit someone they're going to let most of their force out into their skates and let the skates drag them to that player. It's not really because he pushes someone against the glass walls but it's the impact of the collision is very high. That's what makes hockey players hit harder.

I have played both sports and I would definately have to say it's hockey. Players are traveling at greater speeds in hockey and in football you are always expecting to get hit while getting hit in hockey is usually unexpected.

Hockey players! Not only hit harder, but more times a week, more games a year, and wedged between 220 lbs of goon, and glass and boards.

None of you people have obviously ever played football. I've played both sports from 7-18 years old. Football is easily a harder hitting sport and much more physical. Allthough hockey is my first sport and will always be, it's not even comparable.
