Ok. I have to write a persuasive essay with the topic of Censorship. I want some opinions. Yes or no, and why. Here's more info...Your local public library has come under criticism for allowing patrons under the age of 18 to check out books that are unacceptable. The books are either explicit, describe graphic violence, or use questionable language. Most recently, a high school senior checked out James Joyce's Ulysses. The student's parents did not approve of the student reading the book and complained to the town council. As a result, the council is considering removing all questionable books from the library. What is your position on this issue? Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper stating your position and supporting it with convincing reasons. Ok there it is dats what I have to do. I dont really have to write a letter to a REAL editor, just my teacher, Mr Thomas. Ok... please write nice because im turning this into school. Um thanks, bye!

You know, there are two kinds of people who post questions in this section: those who are asking for help with homework, and those who are asking for their work to be done for them. Guess which one people are willing to help out.

you should log on to Google and google "how to write a letter to the editor"

State the reason for the letter, state what you feel about the subject, and state what you would like to see happen. In other words a beginning, middle and end.

Personally, I think this is an easy one. Wars were fought (namely the Revolutionary War) and more recently Vietnam to give us the right to our basic freedoms as spelled out in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. One of the basic rights is the Freedom of Speech (which includes thought and expression).

How dare anyone censor what we read. Who would make the decision that it is "objectionable" By whose standards would it be held "objectionable". Which CHURCH would get to decide?

In the United States we are supposed to be free to decide what is and is not objectionable. Or, if we are minors, our parents are free to decide for us. However, to have a school remove what it deems are "questionable" books is the epitome of arrogance and unAmerican activity. To what exactly does the school object? What is "questionable language" By whose definition.

Is this a religious school? Is this a private school. Is this a public school? If public, the taxpayers settled this question long ago. The right of free speech, as defined and set forth in the Bill of Rights is a fundamental right for all Americans. For a school of all places to deny that right to students is abhorrent on its face. And anyone who would do this would be committing the most despicable act, in my opinion. James Joyce's Ulysses is a Classic Work of Art, and anyone denying students the right to read it would be denying a student the right to a broad, well rounded, liberal arts education.

Good luck with your essay.

Normally, I would love to help you, and you would get an A + too... Especially if Joyce was involved! but for some strange reason I am opposed to helping anyone not in college.

You really need to begin reading banned books to understand why they are banned and also why they shouldn't be. Then you wont have to ask for help. I believe in teaching a child how to fish, not in feeding him.

I suppose I'm opposed because by the time you get to college, if you still don't understand (which you probably wont if you keep asking people to do your homework for you.) then that person is an idiot and needs all they help they can get in life. So I feel obligated.

Good luck! Do your own reading and your own homework!

I have a sister in 5th grade and I am very disappointed in you. How could you ask someone else to do a school paper for you? And how could you give out personal information? I would advise you to think of a topic yourself and look up the word "plagiarism", because this will become a very important issue in the future if you continue to do this.

Well, what do YOU think about this issue? Just state your opinion and then research a few facts to back up why you believe your opinion is the right one... hell, you might even have fun doing it!

I know you won't choose me for best answer, but oh well. I have no problem stating my opinion!!!!

I am not going to do your homework for you but here are some thoughts.

Censorship goes against the Americans rights. We have the right to freedom of speech and a proper education no matter how we learn it.
