can i download google earth the free version to my computer i have win98 let me know

It will download but it's likely that your hard drive won;t be big enough to download a file that size. Won't do any harm to try and see, and oyu can always uninstall if it don't work.

Try it but i doubt it will run decent if you have an old pc

windows 98 only gomes with 2 GB of memory. You have probably already used most of that portion, 2GB wouldnt last a average a week on a new computer these days. google Earth takes up a lot of memory.
Also, google earth probably Dont support windows 98, that may be the main reason.
