Elongated man: Ralph Dibney. He researched circus contortionists, who were able to stretch somewhat and found they all drank the same soda (gingold) made from a root found in the Yucutan Peninusla. He distilled the elixer so that it was more concentrated and made it work with his rare blood type, so he was able to stretch far more than any of them. He is able to reshape his features at least somewhat, but this is not a power he has used very much. Mostly he just stretches to get in and out of places. He is an accomplished detective, though not much of a scientist, other than a biochemist. He married a wealthy woman Sue Dearborn, and they spent their time just travelling the world and solving mysteries together, like Nick and Nora. I was so sad when his wife was killed in 52, he was a truly nice guy for a super hero, and didn’t deserve to be crapped on like that. I hope they bring her back, and not as a villainess, either.
Ralph is not particularly invulnerable, but as you might imagine, it is pretty hard to hurt a guy who bends and stretches. He is probably fairly bullet proof. If he runs out of his gingold juice, or gets a bad batch, his powers will fail or go haywire. That has happened more than once. Once, he developed the power to cause other objects to become malleable, and melted the Flash to a puddle! He returned to normal once he stopped using the bad batch of gingold.
Flash. There have been several Flash’s. The first was the Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick. He inhaled heavy water fumes and became super fast. Then there was the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen, he was struck by lightning and doused with chemicals to become super fast. The next one was Wally West, who was Kid Flash, first. His accident was the same as Barry’s. The current Flash is Bart Allen, who is Barry’s grandson from the future, and he inherited super speed from Barry.
None of the Flash’s are invulnerable; they have human weaknesses. They are just usually able to avoid being hurt or recover a lot more rapidly than other people. Not instant, but faster.
Barry Allen died in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and he didn’t deserve it, either. But I am glad someone is upholding the Flash tradition.
You can find everything about the Flash, all of them, on the site hyperborea.org/ those who ride the lightning. It is a fan site that covers every Flash in all of the history of DC comics. It is well worth looking at.

Ralph Dibny, The Elongated Man, first entered the comics scene in Flash V1 #112 (April - May 1960). His stretching powers derive from the Ginbgold extract of an Indian plant. After losing his wife recently, Ralph's detective skills have been useful in a journey through the mystical realms with the Helmet Of Fate.
POWERS: Ability to stretch to great lengths, keen detective skills
The Flash has had several incarnations:
Flash I is Jay Garrick, who fought crime in the '40's alongside the Justice Society Of America.
Next in line was police forensic scientist Barry Allen, who received his powers in a lab accident. The nephew of his fiancee at the time, Wally West underwent the same change, becoming Kid Flash.
After Barry's death in the Crisis On Infinite Earths, Wally assumed the mantle of The Flash as Flash III. During the Infinite Crisis storyline, he also "retired", passing the mantle over to Bart Allen, a descendant from the future formerly known as Impulse.
Bart is the current carrier of the Flash legacy as Flash IV.
POWERS: Super speed, ability to "vibrate" through walls, among other speed-related skills.

I don't remember the ID for EM, but I think he had a limit to how much he could elongate.
The Flash (the classic one that i remember) was Barry Allen, though there was a kid flash (Wally West) and a counter Earth Flash. The Flash's weakness were extreme cold and frictionless surfaces (as though such a thing existed). Extreme cold (Near absolute zero) would slow his molecules down. That's the old school Flash anyway

Enlongated man is Ralph Dibny. He got his powers from drinking ginkgold formula. He got the stuff by watching an Indian in a travelling circus that used to contort his body. When he first got the powers he used them as a crook until he ran across the Flash. After thier encounter he changed his ways and becmae known as the elastic detective. His nose would wiggle when ever there was a mystery present.
His powers were simply stretching his limbs. He was a member of the JLA for years.
Most recently he suffered a great loss when his wife was murdered by Jean Loring, ex-wife of Ray Palmer the Atom. This murder set in motion the Identity Crisis. After this all settled he left the hero community and with the helmet of Fate he traveled the globe looking for answers why his wife was killed.
As for Flash, it depends on who.
Flash I Jay Garrick. Speedster during the period from 1940s to the 1950s. He got his abilities by inhaling the fumes from hard water spilled. He used his speed fighting Axis and assorted foes alongside the JSA as a founding member. When the rest of the JSA retired in the 50s he went with them. He came back to reform the JSA a few times and more recently he started the group up again.
Flash II Barry Allen. He was the Flash that showed up in Showcase 4 1955 and is credited with bringing in the Silver Age of comics. He got his powers from a lightning bolt that struck a cabinet of chemicals and covered him in them. Barry used his new powers as a founding member of the JLA, the silver age version of the JSA. He ws also the first hero to cross the barrier to Flash I earth and started the annual JSA JLA crossovers. Barry even ventured into the future where he met his wife and married. He had complete control over his body such that he could vibrate through solid objects.
Barry met his demise at the hands of the Anti monitor while running to prevent him from destroying the multiverse. It is thought that when Barry died he reverted back to the primal force in speed, a tachyon and actually traveled backwards in time and caused both his own accident and Jay Garricks that ultimately created them.
Flash III, Wally West. He became the Flash after getting Barrys ring upon his death. He had more control over his speed and even for a time tapped into the speed force and could "lend" his speed to another person or even objects. Recently he entered the speed force and dissapeard, leaving the road open for.....
Flash IV Bart Allen. He is the current Flash and has the distinction of being from a future century, brought back by Barry.
Like all Flashes before him Bart can run at tremendous speeds, vibrate through solid matter and create vortexes by spinning.
As for stopping the speedsters, a lot of colorful villians have tried a myriad of ways, from heat to freezing, giant boomerangs to giant tops, violins that palyed deadly tunes to enchanted pan flutes. Lots have tried, none have succeded.

Elongated Man: real name - Ralph Dibney. His body skn flesh bones, muscles internal organs and each and every molecule in his body had the ability to stretch and elongate in the manner of elastic. Using this ability he could not only stretch various parts of his body, but even reshape it into differnt simple forms in the manner of putty. His power originated from an extract of plant called Gingold. His investigation into hte propertis of this plant began with his curiosity regarding circus performers often refferred to as "rubber men". He noticed that all of them drank a soft drink called Gingold which was made form this plant. After several years of research he was able to isolate the particular compound in the plant responsible for their unusual flexibility and he drank a concentrated dose of it. Once it had worked its way into his system he found that he not only had that flexibility, but a side effect of it was that his entire body had the consistancy of rubber or elastic. The main drawback was that the effect ws temporary and inorder to maintain those elastic-like properties he had to drink more of the extract periodically. That being the case I suppose the main weakness would be his dependance on that substance for his powers and the fact that if he went too long between drinks his powers would fade. A secondary weakness was the fact that, at some point, his body would have absorbed as much of the substance as was possible and it would no longer have any affect on him at all. It was believed that he would be beyond the need for those powers before that happened. He was one of the first, and one of the few costumed crime fighters that went public with his identity...an act which cost him the life of his wife Sue...after her death he ceased to use the substance and recently he was killed.
Flash. There have been 4 main characters that have used that name. The First was Jay Garrick. His power to run at superhuman speed was gained by an exposure to radioactive materials. Other than his speed he had no other abilities so he had the same vulnerabilities as any regular human.
The Next person to use the name Flash was Barry Allen, a police scientist who gained his powers when a bolt of lightning struck a cabined of chemicals he was standing in front of and the mixture of those chemicals and the electricity granted him the ability to move at superhuman speeds, fast enough to even travel through time. Again beyond that he had no other abilities so his fulnerabilites were much the same as that of a normal human.
After him the name Flash was used by Wally West, the nephew of Barry's wife Iris. He gained his abiities in an almost identical manner to Barry, save that the chemicals HE was splashed with were his own. Due to his young age when he gained his powers, the bio chemical changeds of puberty altered them so that he could only move a a few times the speed of sound. Later on his origianl speed was restored. Again normal human vulnerabities.
Currently the name Flash is being used by two men. 1 being Jay Garrick, and the other is a descentant of Barry Allen from the future where Barry lived aftere a supposed death. This currend Flash is Bart Allen and his powers are hereditary. Again his weaknessess wer the normal human vulnerabilities.
There was one other vulnerability that all the Flashes (as well as other hypersonic beings) share. That was their dependancy on something known as the speed force. This was for a cconsiderable amount of time the source of their powers. Losing a connection to this would ahve prevented their ability to use those abilities (as happend to Jessie Quick) OR moving too fast could cause them to become a part of it (as happened to one of Jay Garricks enemies with identical powers and also to Wally West.) Currently the speed force is not an issue for hypersonic beigs one way or the other, yet they have retained their abilities.
