There was an invention called "trepanation," which was a drilling through the skull (at the temple) in order to relieve headaches, we now believe. Whether it worked or not, we dont know. Sometimes the operation killed the patient, just as today. Ancient "caveman" skulls is where it is found.

Dear me, some people don't know their abbreviations. Hate to correct someone like this, but I'm sick fo people thinking AD means after death. If this was the case than there is a 33 year gap in history between CHirst's birth and death. No such thing exists of course, because AD is the abbreviated phrase Anno Domini, the year of our lord. For some reason it appears we use the the english BC. Anyone know for a fact what is used in Germany for example, VC, NC?

Hippocrates is the inspiration for many of are beliefs about how doctors and hospitals should function. The hippocratic oath is based on the teachings he invented. And yes, Hippocrates lived well before CHirst's birth.

Indian physician Sushruta (c. 600 BC) taught and practiced surgery on the banks of the Ganges in the area that corresponds to the present day city of Benares in Northern India. Also talks about ancient Egypt, Greece and China.

Brain surgery was widely practiced. No, this isn't a put on. Patients who suffered from problems such as headache would seek a practitioner who would drill a hole into the head to, 'relieve pressure.' This is still practiced in some parts of the world. You can see it being performed in the streets of modern-day Cairo. Its adherents swear it works.

You are going to have a really hard time to finding that information for most of the inventions BCE. Your best bet is going to look at Greece or early Rome. You could also look at Egypt but the further you go back, the harder is it going to be.
