The NY Giants First Played as a franchise in 1925. The owner, Timothy Mara was a Boxing Promoter and Bookmaker(when gambling was legal). He Bought a franchise to the "New Fangled League" for 500 dollars. This from Giants.com:
"The city of New York was introduced to professional football on the same day that the city was introduced to the New York Giants. It was a clear, sunny October afternoon in 1925 when the Giants took the field to play against the Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Giants lost their home debut by the score of 14-0, but more importantly, the New York Giants and professional football had arrived".

Currently the team is owned by his Grandson- John Mara and the Tisch Family. Both Prior owners(Wellington Mara & Bob Tisch) passed away recently.

Trick question. Sort of. There was a NY Giants football team back in 1921, actually before there was an NFL. They only played two games that year and lost both of them.

However the franchise that is currently the NY Giants started in 1925, and lost both of their first two games as well.
