Here's some background: The Arabic word "jihad" translates to "struggle". For the verb, it means "to struggle". Technically in Islam the "struggle" can be used to struggle against sin and be pious. However, in much of Arabic literature, "jihad" refers to holy war, since this is a struggle as well. The Quran ok's war against people persecuting Muslims.

To answer your question, when people say "Jihadi" or "Jihadists" they are using a general term for Muslim terrorists, who are fighting what they see as a holy war. Its not a specific group or club.

I can more directly cite this if needed.

Taliban is a political group that was created by United states ,Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to fight the leftist forces and take over Afghanistan after the Soviets left Afghanistan.Jihadi on the other hand is a holy warrior fighting for the cause of Islam Religion .It has nothing to do with Taliban but many of the Taliban lower ranks became jihadis mainly because of lure of money provided by Saudi Arabia and Pakistani ISI[Their Equivalent of CIA].I wish there could be a better way for me to explain because in those countries the political and social relations are very very complicated and very hard to understand for any Westerner or secular person.

It's a generalized term created to label Muslims as terrorists. From my experience, most Westerners I've talked to have no concept of what Jihad represents.

As I understand it, 'jihad' is a word meaning 'war' or 'holy war' I'm not sure that 'jihadi' is even a word.
