"Edith" I apologize, I was "trying" to giving everyone a thumbs up for their good suggestion.

These are "generally" the best value hotels in LV. To save the most money "avoid special events, large conventions and weekends"

On the strip

Stratosphere
http://www.stratospherehotel.com >very nice 3 star hotel located at the far North end of the strip>which is why it's such a bargain, most don't like the location. If you don't mind riding the Deuce(very cool, double decker strip bus) you can save a lot of money on the room. A 24 hour bus pass only runs $5. >Will price match online rates for their hotel

Bill's Gambling Hall & Casino>formerly the Barbary Coast
http://www.billslasvegas.com
for reservations - 1-866-BILLS-45

Off the Strip
Orleans
Gold Coast
http://www.orleanscasino.com >site for both the GC & Orleans>both will price match any online room rate you find for their hotel.

Palace Station
Boulder Station
http://www.stationcasinos.com

Sam's Town
Fiesta Henderson
Silverton

My favorites downtown
Main Street Station
http://www.mainstreetcasino.com

The Golden Nugget >a four star hotel, that often offers bargain room rates>sign up on their web site for e-mail offers!

El Cortez
Great rates, but the hotel is in a poor location, two blocks from the main hotel cluster on Fremont St.

California
Fremont
Vegas Club
Four Queens
Fitzgerald's

good rates but further down my list of places to stay
Plaza
Golden Gate
Horseshoe

Don't even think about staying at these dumps
Gold Spike
Western
Wild Wild West

for the best & most up to date LV info
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com >free hotel shuttles, buffets, meal deals, gambling, shows, free spectacles, web site links to all LV hotels, etc

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time, and have for over 20 years, so inexpensive and free are the name of the game. Learn to play the game and LV is the least expensive vacation anywhere> As in $232 each for RT air from KC & 14 nights hotels>we did over spend a little to stay in one hotel 9 nights rather than move 2 more times to take advantage of 5 comp nights. We already have 31 more nights booked for this year, including the highest price 4 nights of the year>we are at $497 right now, but have only used one of our hotels for comp nights(so far), we will cut that cost considerable before we leave.>We have 3 more that regularly comp us rooms>No we are not high rollers.

"kitty" "I know vegas like the back of my hand" >Then you should know how to spell the "Fremont" hotels name then, right? >The El Cortez is not a "roach motel">unless it's really gone down hill since we were there in December< nor is the "Fremont", both are very clean. And it's the "Stratosphere" not "Stratusphere" > Also, it's Vegas Club they shortened the name from the Las Vegas Club several years ago...

And to correct another inaccuracy, you are far better off to check the travel sites & the hotel web site to see which has the best rate, >then check to see if the hotel will price match and book through the hotel>this way you can cancel the reservation when/if you find a better rate, and the hotel cannot comp your room if you buy a package through a travel site, whereas they can if you book the room through the hotel..

I think that a good, nice, clean moderately priced hotel is the Luxor, Monte Carlo, Stratosphere,or whatever happens to be in your budget during the time you are planning to go. I usually go to Vegas about 2-3 times a year and have stayed at many different hotels ranging from 5 star to 2 star.
If this is your first time going to Vegas and do have a bit of extra money to spend (instead of gambling it all away...) I highly suggest spending a few more bucks for a nicer hotel. You will feel more relaxed and will be closer to the middle of the strip. I highly suggest the Aladdin Hotel (they are actually in the middle of becoming Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino).
My first trip to Vegas was so much better because I spent a little more to stay at a 5 star hotel. I got to experience the "real" hospitality staff and environment of the hotel was just so much more nicer than the cheaper ones. The Venetian was the most beautiful and one of the most comfortable hotels that I have been in; recently though with summer coming up rates are very high for the 5 star hotels.
Price search carefully when you plan to buy tickets for. Occasionally United Airlines have specials with hotels and flight.
I usually buy my packages from www.americawest.com and they are usually the cheapest you can get. Their service is not bad either! HAVE TONS OF FUN!

My husband and I were just in Las Vegas the beginning of last month. We stayed at the Circus Circus Hotel- it was very reasonable but not a very safe area of the strip anymore. The Westward Ho and the Stardust were tore down in 2006, but the Riviera is still right across the street. If you plan on staying on the strip, I would suggest staying at the Luxor. My boss goes to Las Vegas a couple times a year but he always stays at one of the hotels off-strip- The Golden Nugget on Fremont Street. He says that it is a very nice hotel and during the week you can usually get a room for under $60/night and he said the area is pretty safe around there. It is pretty easy to get to and you can ride the Deuce Bus for $5/per person for a 24 hour pass and it will take you between all the hotels on the strip and Fremont Street.

The sahara was a nice place with good central location and very reasonable prices (although I'd avoid the room service menu) also make sure to visit the courtesy desk at the casinos you visit and ask about players club cards or other incentives . You can usually get about $10 in free play

Price wise there is nothing great. But most affordable are at the Older section. Try the Riviera, Pool is great, decent price.
CircusX2 is just getting old and run down.
Try off strip for best prices, Orleans, Arizona Charlie's.

Depends on your view of expensive. I'll go with mine which is $80 and tell you where you can score good rates online:

New York, New York
Monte Carlo
The Luxor
Harrah's
Treasure Island
The Excalibur
Bally's

The key to cheap is the internet. Make sure when you book you give a decent amount of time for the trip itself.

i could flow with planet hollywood. Been to vegas 7 or 8 cases. it truly is on the strip, it truly is somewhat more suitable severe priced compared to the others, yet its way purifier and it truly is genuine marvelous with reliable food and such. also suitable outside of las vegas in henderson theres a inn stated as greenvalley ranch and it truly is an particularly marvelous inn with a sweet pool, arcade, movie theatre and it truly is own procuring strip outside. it truly is no longer precisely the party inn.. besides the undeniable fact that it truly is marvelous.
