You always hear about Tiger Williams, Bob Probert, McSorley, Laraque, Grimson etc. These guys were all heavyweights that dominated the ice. My question is, who were the guys that stood up to anyone even when they were fighting above their weight class. I am thinking of guys like Asham or McCarty who are under/around the 220lb mark.

All right, I have looked up these fighters.
Semenko is a heavyweight. I went to youtube and watched Bob Probert send him to the ice and then he couldn't even skate back by himself. Kinda falls out of the running right there.
P.J is a a mini-monster and so is Tucker. Very impressive fights for both of them. Really, at less than 190 lbs they fall into what I consider to be lightweights in the NHL. Tucker is listed at 178!!! Still, it is coming down to one of these two.
Iginla has always been a favorite of mine but I wince when I watch such a skilled player risk himself. (Jerome, we love you! Let someone else fight for you!!).

Joey Kocur is my favorite fighter ofall time. He is listed as 6'0, 220 lbs but I have always classed him as a heavyweight. Go to

There is an awesome tribute to him. I have it favorited. I grew up in Michigan and I watched him in his prime. I have also heard Cam Neely tell the cracked helmet story. Amazing hitter.

Hands down, Joe Kocur. He fought Cam Neely once, punched him in his helemt and broke it. Also punched Brad Dalgarno from the Islanders and broke his orbital bone. I saw him knock ALOT of guys silly. In a players poll I saw once he was voted as the hardest puncher at the time. Probert was rated the best fighter at the time. Kocur would fight anyone tho.

George McPhee of the Rangers and Devils (80's, early 90's). He was a 5' 9" Hobey Baker winner out of Bowling Green who took a regular shift and never backed down from anyone. Ask Dave Langevin what he thought of McPhee.
Tucker is an agitator, not an enforcer. I'd even put Matthew Barnaby ahead of that guy. Regardless, neither one could touch McPhee. It's one thing to be willing to dance, but being able to is a different story.

Even tho he was only 183 lbs P.J. Stock, a former Bruin was a hell of a fighter! He would take on huge guys and actually kick some ***. Haha he was a little guy but could deffinetly hold his own in a fight and was one of the leading enforcers during his day =]

what about "rayzor" rob ray???!! he was 6 ft and 222lbs not exactly a big guy but **** have u ever seen him fight? he would take on anyone. they even made a rule called the rob ray rule that states players cannot take off their jersey and pads prior to fighting. rayzor did this so he could fight better and the opponent wouldnt have anything to grab hold of thus giving him the advantage. talk about hard core fighting. even after this rule was implemented rayzor's fighting got even better and he had rivalry's with tie domi, Mick Vukota, Stu Grimson, and Dennis Vial.
